Monitoring the US ATLAS Network Infrastructure with perfSONAR-PS / McKee, S (University of Michigan) ; Lake, A (Lawrence Berkeley National Lab) ; Laurens, P (Michigan State University) ; Severini, H (Oklahoma University) ; Wlodek, T (Brookhaven National Lab) ; Wolff, S (Internet2) ; Zurawski, J (Internet2)
We will present our motivations for deploying and using the perfSONAR-PS Performance Toolkit at ATLAS sites in the United States and describe our experience in using it. This software creates a dedicated monitoring server, capable of collecting and performing a wide range of passive and active network measurements. [...]

Deployment of a WLCG network monitoring infrastructure based on the perfSONAR-PS technology / Campana, S (CERN) ; Brown, A ; Bonacorsi, D ; Capone, V ; Girolamo, D De ; Casani, A F ; Flix, J ; Forti, A ; Gable, I ; Gutsche, O et al.
The WLCG infrastructure moved from a very rigid network topology, based on the MONARC model, to a more relaxed system, where data movement between regions or countries does not necessarily need to involve T1 centres. While this evolution brought obvious advantages, especially in terms of flexibility for the LHC experiment's data management systems, it also opened the question of how to monitor the increasing number of possible network paths, in order to provide a global reliable network service. Integrating network and transfer metrics to optimize transfer efficiency and experiment workflows / McKee, S (Michigan U., MCTP) ; Babik, M (CERN) ; Campana, S (CERN) ; Girolamo, A Di (CERN) ; Wildish, T (CERN) ; Closier, J (CERN) ; Roiser, S (CERN) ; Grigoras, C (CERN) ; Vukotic, I (CERN) ; Salichos, M (CERN) et al.
The Worldwide LHC Computing Grid relies on the network as a critical part of its infrastructure and therefore needs to guarantee effective network usage and prompt detection and resolution of any network issues, including connection failures, congestion, traffic routing, etc. The WLCG Network and Transfer Metrics project aims to integrate and combine all network-related monitoring data collected by the WLCG infrastructure. The DYNES Instrument: A Description and Overview / Zurawski, Jason (speaker) (Internet2)
Scientific innovation continues to increase requirements for the computing and networking infrastructures of the world. Collaborative partners, instrumentation, storage, and processing facilities are often geographically and topologically separated, as is the case with LHC virtual organizations. [...]

Intercontinental Multi-Domain Monitoring for the LHC Optical Private Network / Vicinanza, Domenico (speaker) (DANTE)
The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is currently running at CERN in Geneva, Switzerland. Physicists are using LHC to recreate the conditions just after the Big Bang, by colliding two beams of particles and heavy ions head-on at very high energy. [...]

One network metric datastore to track them all: the OSG network metric service / Quick, Robert (Indiana U.) ; Babik, Marian (CERN) ; Fajardo, Edgar M (UC, San Diego) ; Gross, Kyle (Indiana U.) ; Hayashi, Soichi (Indiana U.) ; Krenz, Marina (Indiana U.) ; Lee, Thomas (Indiana U.) ; McKee, Shawn (Michigan U.) ; Pipes, Christopher (Indiana U.) ; Teige, Scott (Indiana U.)
The Open Science Grid (OSG) relies upon the network as a critical part of the distributed infrastructures it enables. In 2012, OSG added a new focus area in networking with a goal of becoming the primary source of network information for its members and collaborators. [...]

Integrating Network Awareness in ATLAS Distributed Computing Using the ANSE Project / Klimentov, Alexei (Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL)) ; De, Kaushik (The University of Texas at Arlington) ; Petrosyan, Artem (Joint Institute for Nuclear Research) ; Batista, Jorge Horacio (University of Michigan, Department of Physics) ; Mc Kee, Shawn Patrick (University of Michigan, Department of Physics)
A crucial contributor to the success of the massively scaled global computing system that delivers the analysis needs of the LHC experiments is the networking infrastructure upon which the system is built. The experiments have been able to exploit excellent high-bandwidth networking in adapting their computing models for the most efficient utilization of resources. [...]
