Demonstration of loss reduction using a thin bent crystal to shadow an electrostatic septum during resonant slow extraction / Velotti, Francesco (CERN) ; Addesa, Francesca (INFN, Rome) ; Afonin, Alexander (Serpukhov, IHEP) ; Bestmann, Patrick (CERN) ; Borg, Johan (Imperial Coll., London) ; Butcher, Mark (CERN) ; Calviani, Marco (CERN) ; Chesnokov, Yuri (Serpukhov, IHEP) ; Denisov, Alexander (St. Petersburg, INP) ; Di Castro, Mario (CERN) et al.
A proof-of-principle experiment demonstrating the feasibility of using a thin, bent crystal aligned upstream of an extraction septum (ES) to increase the efficiency of the third-integer resonant slow extraction process has been carried out at the CERN Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS). With the primary aim of reducing the beam loss and induced radio-activation of the SPS, the crystal was aligned to both the beam and the septum to reduce by up to 40% the beam intensity impinging the ES and increase the intensity entering the external transfer line. Crystal for slow extraction loss-reduction of the SPS electrostatic septum / Esposito, Luigi Salvatore (CERN) ; Addesa, Francesca (INFN, Rome) ; Afonin, Alexander (Serpukhov, IHEP) ; Bestman, Patrick (CERN) ; Borg, Johan (Imperial Coll., London) ; Butcher, Mark (CERN) ; Calviani, Marco (CERN) ; Chesnokov, Yuri (Serpukhov, IHEP) ; Denisov, Alexander (St. Petersburg, INP) ; Di Castro, Mario (CERN) et al.
The use of a bent crystal was investigated in order to reduce the losses at the CERN Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS) electrostatic septum (ZS) during the slow extraction of 400 GeV/c protons toward the North Area. The crystal, installed a few meters upstream of the ZS, bends protons that would otherwise impinge on the ZS wires. [...]

The UA9 setup for the double-crystal experiment in CERN-SPS / CERN UA 009 collaboration
Experiments to measure the electric and the magnetic moments of short-lived baryons using an internal target and two bent crystals in the vicinity of one of the existing LHC detectors were recently proposed, in the frame of the Physics Beyond Colliders Working Group at CERN. Investigating fixed-target physics in the LHC with in-vacuum solid targets is an unprecedented challenge. [...]

Multiple scattering of positively charged particles moving near the (111) plane in a silicon single crystal / Scandale, W (Imperial Coll., London) ; Cerutti, F (CERN) ; Esposito, L S (CERN) ; Garattini, M (CERN) ; Gilardoni, S (CERN) ; Losito, R (CERN) ; Masi, A (CERN) ; Mirarchi, D (CERN) ; Redaelli, S (CERN) ; Smirnov, G (CERN) et al.
The article is devoted to the study of the suppression of multiple scattering of positively charged particles with momenta of 180 GeV/c and 400 GeV/c passing through bent single crystals of silicon at small angles to the plane (111) both in channeling mode and in the above-barrier state. For the first time, the suppression of the effect of multiple scattering of non-channeling particles passing at a small angle to one of the planes of a silicon single crystal was observed. [...]

Exclusive production of heavy quarkonia as a probe of the low x and low scale gluon PDF / Flett, C.A. (Liverpool U., Dept. Math.) ; Jones, S.P. (CERN) ; Martin, A.D. (Durham U., IPPP) ; Ryskin, M.G. (Durham U., IPPP ; St. Petersburg, INP) ; Teubner, T. (Liverpool U., Dept. Math.)
We discuss the exclusive $J/\psi$ photoproduction process, as measured recently at LHCb, as a means of constraining and ultimately determining the low $x$ and low $Q$ gluon PDF. [...]

Search for resonances decaying into photon pairs in 139 fb$^{-1}$ of $pp$ collisions at $\sqrt{s} =$ 13 TeV with the ATLAS detector / ATLAS Collaboration
Searches for new resonances in the diphoton final state, with spin 0 as predicted by theories with an extended Higgs sector and with spin 2 using a warped extra-dimension benchmark model, are presented using 139 fb$^{-1}$ of $\sqrt{s} = $ 13 TeV $pp$ collision data collected by the ATLAS experiment at the LHC. No significant deviation from the Standard Model is observed and upper limits are placed on the production cross-section times branching ratio to two photons as a function of the resonance mass..
