A dynamic beam window for coupling accelerator and reactor core in an ADS / Caspers, Fritz (CERN) ; Mueller, Alex C. (ACM Consult GmbH, Mainz)
During the many fruitful discussions and presentations at this EUCARD2-workshop we all were once more reminded of the respective technical short comings of the two solutions bringing an intense proton-beam on a molten-lead spallation target housed inside a fuel-loaded reactor. These are namely the window-less target solution where the accelerator is completely unprotected from accidentally back-streaming target material or the window solution with it’s inherent danger of catastrophic failure. Implementation of an LBE spallation target in an accelerator-driven molten salt subcritical reactor / Bak, Sang-In (Sungkyunkwan U.) ; Hong, Seung-Woo (Sungkyunkwan U. ; Sungkyunkwan U., Seoul) ; Kadi, Yacine (CERN)
An accelerator-driven system (ADS) combined with a subcritical molten salt reactor (MSR) is a type of hybrid reactor originally designed to use Th/U (or U/Pu ) fuel cycles. In most accelerator-driven molten salt reactor (AD-MSR) concepts, the salt material is also used as a target for inducing spallation neutrons. [...]

Note on the Efficiency of Differential Pumping in the LHC Polarized Gas Target (PGT) / Steffens, Erhard (University of Erlangen)
For a sufficient density of a window-less gas target based on a storage cell, a substantial gas flow rate is required, exceeding that of UHV vacuum systems. Therefore, differential pumping has to be applied in order to limit the gas flow into neighbouring sections. [...]

Deliverable D1: Engineering study of the Hg converter / K. Samec et al.
The development of high-power converter targets otherwise known as neutron sources is today the focus of much attention, driven by the need for ever greater densities of neutron fluxes which are required in the fundamental sciences such as neutron imagery, isotope production and also for the more long-term goal of realising a hybrid sub-critical nuclear reactor. An overview of the HIE-ISOLDE Design Study / Catherall, R (CERN) ; Czapski, M (CERN) ; Polato, A (CERN) ; Stora, T (CERN) ; Huyse, M (Louvain U., Inst. Phys. Nucl.) ; Fowler, T (CERN) ; Venturi, V (CERN) ; Augustin, M (CERN) ; Montano, J (CERN) ; Van Duppen, P (Louvain U., Inst. Phys. Nucl.) et al.
The On-Line Isotope Mass Separator ISOLDE 111 is a facility dedicated to the production of a large variety of radioactive ion beams (RIB) for a great number of different experiments. Over 1000 radioactive nuclides from 70 elements can be produced in thick high-temperature targets via spallation, fission or fragmentation reactions with the PS-Booster pulsed proton-beam. [...]
