The CERN FCC Conductor Development Program: A Worldwide Effort for the Future Generation of High Field Magnets / Ballarino, Amalia (CERN) ; Hopkins, Simon (CERN) ; Bordini, Bernardo (CERN) ; Richter, David (CERN) ; Tommasini, Davide (CERN) ; Bottura, Luca (CERN) ; Benedikt, Michael (CERN) ; Sugano, Michinaka ; Ogitsu, Toru ; Kawashima, Shinya (Kobe Steel) et al.
The study of next-generation high-energy accelerators based on 16 T dipoles has emphasized the need for higher performance, cost-effective Nb$_3$Sn superconducting wires. A Conductor Development Program aiming to reach a non-copper critical current density ($J_c$) of 1500 A/mm2 at 16 T and 4.2 K has been launched by CERN, with the involvement of industry and laboratories worldwide. The crystal structure of (Nb$_{0.75}$Cu$_{0.25}$)Sn$_{2}$ in the Cu-Nb-Sn system / Martin, Stefan (TU Bergakademie Freiberg) ; Walnsch, Alexander (TU Bergakademie Freiberg ; CERN) ; Nolze, Gert (Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM), Berlin) ; Leineweber, Andreas (TU Bergakademie Freiberg) ; Leaux, Floriane (CERN) ; Scheuerlein, Christian (CERN)
During the processing of superconducting Nb$_{3}$Sn wire, several intermediate intermetallic phases including a previously encountered Cu-Nb-Sn phase show up. The yet unknown crystal structure of this phase is now identified by a combination of different experimental techniques and database search to be of the hexagonal NiMg2 type with a proposed composition of about (Nb0.75Cu0.25)Sn2. Heat Treatment Optimization on Nb-Sn Strands Based on Electrical and Physical Properties / Demattè, F (PSI, Villigen) ; Bruzzone, P (PSI, Villigen) ; Sarasola, X (PSI, Villigen) ; Pfeiffer, S (CERN) ; Castro, E Rodriguez (CERN ; Carlos III U., Madrid) ; De Marzi, G (ENEA, Frascati) ; Muzzi, L (ENEA, Frascati)
The electrical and physical properties of Nb $_{3}$ Sn strands are strongly dependent on the heat treatment during which tin diffuses into niobium by solid-state diffusion. During diffusion, Nb $_{3}$ Sn grains grow at the Nb/bronze interface. [...]

The review of the main results of R&D; directed on the enhancement of ITER relevant NbTi and Nb$_{3}$Sn strands performance recently carried out in Russia (the Bochvar Institute) are presented. For ITER PF type (NbTi) strands with Cu/non Cu ratio of 1.6 the attainment of ITER specified critical current density (Jc) ≥ 2900 A/mm2 (5 T, 4.2 K) has been shown. [...]

Future Circular Colliders / Benedikt, Michael (CERN) ; Zimmermann, Frank (CERN)
In response to a request from the 2013 Update of the European Strategy for Particle Physics, the global Future Circular Collider (FCC) study is preparing the foundation for a next-generation large-scale accelerator infrastructure in the heart of Europe. The FCC study focuses on the design of a 100-TeV hadron collider (FCC-hh), to be accommodated in a new ∼100 km tunnel near Geneva. [...]
