The β− decay of Mg34 was used to study the Al34 nucleus through γ spectroscopy at the Isotope Separator On-Line facility of CERN. Previous studies identified two β-decaying states in Al34 having spin-parity assignments Jπ=4− dominated by the normal configuration π(d5/2)−1⊗ν(f7/2) and Jπ=1+ by the intruder configuration π(d5/2)−1⊗ν(d3/2)−1(f7/2)2. Normal and intruder configurations in $^{34}$Si populated in the $\beta^-$ decay of $^{34}$Mg and $^{34}$Al
/ IDS Collaboration
The structure of $^{34}$Si was studied through $\gamma$ spectroscopy separately in the $\beta^-$ decays of $^{34}$Mg and $^{34}$Al at the ISOLDE facility of CERN. Different configurations in $^{34}$Si were populated independently from the two recently identified $\beta$-decaying states in $^{34}$Al having spin-parity assignments $J^\pi = 4^-$ dominated by the normal configuration $\pi (d_{5/2})^{-1} \otimes \nu (f_{7/2})$ and $J^\pi = 1^+$ by the intruder configuration $\pi (d_{5/2})^{-1} \otimes \nu (d_{3/2})^{-1}(f_{7/2})^{2}$. The levels in Sn129 populated from the β− decay of In129 isomers were investigated at the ISOLDE facility of CERN using the newly commissioned ISOLDE Decay Station (IDS). The lowest 1/2+ state and the 3/2+ ground state in Sn129 are expected to have configurations dominated by the neutron s1/2 (l=0) and d3/2 (l=2) single-particle states, respectively. [...]

Evolution of deformation in neutron-rich Ba isotopes up to $A=150$

The occurrence of octupolar shapes in the Ba isotopic chain was recently established experimentally up to $N=90$. To further extend the systematics, the evolution of shapes in the most neutron-rich members of the $Z=56$ isotopic chain accessible at present, $^{148,150}$Ba, has been studied via $\beta$ decay at the ISOLDE Decay Station. First Accurate Normalization of the $\beta$-delayed $\alpha$ Decay of $^{16}$N and Implications for the $^{12}$C$(\alpha,\gamma)^{16}$O Astrophysical Reaction Rate
/ Kirsebom, O.S. (Aarhus U.) ; Tengblad, O. (CSIC, Madrid) ; Lica, R. (CERN ; Bucharest, IFIN-HH) ; Munch, M. (Aarhus U.) ; Riisager, K. (Aarhus U.) ; Fynbo, H.O.U. (Aarhus U.) ; Borge, M.J.G. The $^{12}\text{C}(\alpha,\gamma){}^{16}\text{O}$ reaction plays a central role in astrophysics, but its cross section at energies relevant for astrophysical applications is only poorly constrained by laboratory data. The reduced $\alpha$ width, $\gamma_{11}$, of the bound $1^-$ level in $^{16}$O is particularly important to determine the cross section. [...]

Octupole states in $^{207}$Tl studied through $β$ decay
/ Berry, T A (Surrey U.) ; Podolyák, Zs (Surrey U.) ; Carroll, R J (Surrey U.) ; Lică, R (CERN ; Bucharest, IFIN-HH) ; Brown, B A (Michigan State U.) ; Grawe, H (Darmstadt, GSI) ; Sotty, Ch (Bucharest, IFIN-HH ; Leuven U.) ; Timofeyuk, N K (Surrey U.) ; Alexander, T (Surrey U.) ; Andreyev, A N (York U., England) et al.
The $β$ decay of $^{207}$Hg into the single-proton-hole nucleus $^{207}$Tl has been studied through $γ$-ray spectroscopy at the ISOLDE Decay Station (IDS) with the aim of identifying states resulting from coupling of the $πs^{−1}_{1/2}, πd^{−1}_{3/2},$ and $πh^{−1}_{11/2}$ shell model orbitals to the collective octupole vibration. Twenty-two states were observed lying between 2.6 and 4.0 MeV, eleven of which were observed for the first time, and 78 new transitions were placed. [...]

Competition between Allowed and First-Forbidden $β$ Decay: The Case of $^{208}$Hg$→^{208}$Tl

The $β$ decay of $^{208}$Hg into the one-proton hole, one neutron-particle $^{208}_{81}$Tl$_{127}$ nucleus was investigated at CERN-ISOLDE. Shell-model calculations describe well the level scheme deduced, validating the proton-neutron interactions used, with implications for the whole of the N>126, Z<82 quadrant of neutron-rich nuclei. Charge radii of thallium isotopes near the N=126 shell closure
/ IDS Collaboration
The changes in the mean-squared charge radius of Tlg209 (N=128) and Tlm207 (N=126) relative to Tl205 have been measured for the first time using the in-source laser resonance-ionization spectroscopy technique with the Laser Ion Source and Trap (LIST) at ISOLDE (CERN). The application of the LIST suppresses the dominant background from isobaric francium isotopes and allows access to thallium nuclides with A⩾207. [...]
