The ENUBET Multi Momentum Secondary Beamline Design / Parozzi, Elisabetta G (CERN ; Milan Bicocca U. ; INFN, Milan) ; Brunetti, Giulia (Milan Bicocca U.) ; Charitonidis, Nikolaos (CERN) ; Longhin, Andrea (INFN, Padua ; Padua U.) ; Pari, Michelangelo (INFN, Padua ; Padua U.) ; Pupilli, Fabio (INFN, Padua) ; Terranova, Francesco (INFN, Milan ; Milan Bicocca U.)
The aim of neutrino physics for the next decades is to detect effects due to CP violation, mass hierarchy, and search for effects beyond the Standard Model predictions. Future experiments need precise measurements of the neutrino interaction cross-sections at the ~GeV/c regime, currently limited by the exact knowledge of the initial neutrino flux on a ~10-20% uncertainty level. [...]

ENUBET’s Multi Momentum Secondary Beam Line / Parozzi, E G (CERN ; INFN, Milan Bicocca ; Milan Bicocca U.) ; Brunetti, G (Milan Bicocca U.) ; Charitonidis, N (CERN) ; Longhin, A (INFN, Padua) ; Pari, M (INFN, Padua) ; Pupilli, F (INFN, Padua) ; Terranova, F (INFN, Milan Bicocca ; Milan Bicocca U.)
In order to study the remaining open questions concerning CP violation and neutrino mass hierarchy, as well as to search for physics beyond the Standard Model, future experiments require precise measurements of the neutrino interaction cross-sections in the GeV regime. The absence of a precise knowledge of the neutrino flux (mainly due to uncertainties on the parent hadrons production cross sections) currently limits this measurement to a 5-10% uncertainty level. A Physics Beyond Colliders (PBC) initiative was recently established at CERN to exploit the full scientific potential of its accelerator complex and scientific infrastructure to tackle fundamental open questions in particle physics through experiments complementary to those in current and future colliders. This initiative brings together similar studies to optimize resources globally in order to reach a common goal and promote scientific development efficiently. [...]

The ENUBET ERC project, also included in the CERN Neutrino Platform as NP06/ENUBET, is developing a new neutrino beam based on conventional techniques in which the flux and the flavor composition are known with unprecedented precision (O (1%)). Such a goal is accomplished monitoring the associated charged leptons produced in the decay region of the ENUBET facility. [...]

ENUBET has been conceived to monitor positrons from $K_{e3}$ decays in conventional neutrino beam decay tunnels in order to provide a direct determination of the $\nu_e$ flux at the source, paving the way to a measurement of electron neutrino cross section with 1% precision. Since 2016 remarkable results on the prototyping and testing of the tunnel instrumentation for positron tagging have been achieved, as well as on the design and simulation of the proton extraction scheme, the focusing system and the meson transfer line. The ENUBET project is studying a narrow band neutrino beam where lepton production can be monitored at single particle level in an instrumented decay tunnel and that could provide a 1% measurement of the neutrino flux at source. The three body semi-leptonic decay of kaons monitored by large angle positron production offers a fully controlled $\nu_{e}$ source at the GeV scale for a new generation of short baseline experiments [...]

The ENUBET project aims at demonstrating that the systematics in neutrino fluxes from conventional beams can be reduced to 1% by monitoring positrons from K$_{e3}$ decays in an instrumented decay tunnel, thus allowing a precise measurement of the $\nu_e$ (and $\overline{\nu}_e$) cross section. This contribution will report the results achieved in the first year of activities. [...]
