Improving the Performance of an Orbit Feed-forward Based on Quadrupole Motion at the KEK ATF
/ Bett, Douglas (CERN) ; Burrows, Philip (JAI, Oxford) ; Charrondière, Cedric (CERN) ; Christian, Glenn (JAI, Oxford) ; Jeremie, Andrea (Annecy, LAPP) ; Kubo, Kiyoshi (KEK, Tsukuba) ; Kuroda, Shigeru (KEK, Tsukuba) ; Naito, Takashi (KEK, Tsukuba) ; Okugi, Toshiyuki (KEK, Tsukuba) ; Patecki, Marcin (CERN) et al.
The high luminosity requirement for a future linear collider sets a demanding limit on the beam quality at the Interation Point (IP). Even the natural motion of the ground could misalign the quadrupole magnets to such an extent that the resulting dipole kicks would require compensation. [...]

Contribution of Optical Aberrations to Spot-size Increase with Bunch Intensity at ATF2
/ Patecki, Marcin (CERN ; Warsaw U. of Tech.) ; Kubo, Kiyoshi (KEK, Tsukuba) ; Kuroda, Shigeru (KEK, Tsukuba) ; Naito, Takashi (KEK, Tsukuba) ; Okugi, Toshiyuki (KEK, Tsukuba) ; Tauchi, Toshiaki (KEK, Tsukuba) ; Terunuma, Nobuhiro (KEK, Tsukuba) ; Tomás, Rogelio (CERN) ; White, Glen (SLAC) ; Zimmermann, Frank (CERN)
A primary goal of ATF2 (Accelerator Test Facility) is to demonstrate a low vertical beam size at the interaction point (IP) of about 37 nm. Measurements over the past years indicate that the ATF2 vertical beam size strongly rises with bunch intensity. [...]

Progress in Ultra-Low β* Study at ATF2
/ Patecki, Marcin (CERN) ; Bett, Douglas (CERN) ; Kubo, Kiyoshi (KEK, Tsukuba ; Sokendai, Tsukuba) ; Kuroda, Shigeru (KEK, Tsukuba ; Sokendai, Tsukuba) ; Naito, Takashi (KEK, Tsukuba ; Sokendai, Tsukuba) ; Okugi, Toshiyuki (KEK, Tsukuba ; Sokendai, Tsukuba) ; Plassard, Fabien (CERN) ; Tauchi, Toshiaki (KEK, Tsukuba ; Sokendai, Tsukuba) ; Terunuma, Nobuhiro (KEK, Tsukuba ; Sokendai, Tsukuba) ; Tomás, Rogelio (CERN)
A nanometer beam size in the interaction point (IP) is required in case of future linear colliders for achieving the desired rate of particle collisions. KEK Accelerator Test Facility (ATF2), a scaled down implementation of the beam delivery system (BDS), serves for investigating the limits of electron beam focusing at the interaction point. [...]

The main goal of the Accelerator Test Facility 2 (ATF2) is to demonstrate the feasibility of future linear colliders’ final focus systems. The Ultra-low β^{*} optics of ATF2 is designed to have the same chromaticity level as CLIC. [...]

Towards Ultra-Low β* in ATF2
/ Patecki, Marcin (CERN) ; Aloev, Alexander (CERN) ; Bett, Douglas (CERN) ; Kubo, Kiyoshi (KEK, Tsukuba) ; Marín, Eduardo (SLAC) ; Modena, Michele (CERN) ; Okugi, Toshiyuki (KEK, Tsukuba) ; Tauchi, Toshiaki (KEK, Tsukuba) ; Terunuma, Nobuhiro (KEK, Tsukuba) ; Tomás, Rogelio (CERN) et al.
The Accelerator Test Facility 2 (ATF2) has already demonstrated the feasibility of Final Focus Systems based on the local chromaticity correction scheme and its focusing capabilities by reaching a vertical beam size at the virtual Interaction Point (IP) of less than 50 nm. The value of the chromaticity in ATF2 is comparable with the expected chromaticity in ILC, but 4 times lower than in a design of CLIC. [...]

Experimental Verification Towards Feed-Forward Ground Motion Mitigation at ATF2

Without counter measures, ground motion effects would deteriorate the performance of future linear colliders to an unacceptable level. An envisioned new ground motion mitigation method (based on feed-forward control) has the potential to improve the performance and to reduce the system cost compared to other proposed methods. [...]

Performance of Nanometre-Level Resolution Cavity Beam Position Monitors and Their Application in an Intra-Train Beam Position Feedback System

A system of three low-Q cavity beam position monitors (BPMs), installed in the interaction point (IP) region of the Accelerator Test Facility (ATF2) at KEK, has been designed and optimised for nanometre-level beam position resolution. The BPMs have been used to provide an input to a low-latency, intra-train beam position feedback system consisting of a digital feedback board and a custom stripline kicker with power amplifier. Diffraction Radiation for Non-Invasive, High-Resolution Beam Size Measurements in Future Linear Colliders
/ Bergamaschi, Michele (CERN ; JAI, UK ; Royal Holloway, U. of London) ; Aryshev, Alexander (KEK, Tsukuba) ; Karataev, Pavel (Royal Holloway, U. of London ; JAI, UK) ; Kieffer, Robert (CERN) ; Kruchinin, Konstantin (Royal Holloway, U. of London ; JAI, UK) ; Lefèvre, Thibaut (CERN) ; Mazzoni, Stefano (CERN) ; Terunuma, Nobuhiro (KEK, Tsukuba)
Next generation linear colliders such as the Compact Linear Collider (CLIC) or the International Linear Collider (ILC) will accelerate particle beams with extremely small emittance. The high current and small size of the beam (micron-scale) due to such small emittance require non-invasive, high-resolution techniques for beam diagnostics. [...]

A Sub-Micron Resolution, Bunch-by-Bunch Beam Trajectory Feedback System and Its Application to Reducing Wakefield Effects in Single-Pass Beamlines

A high-precision intra-bunch-train beam orbit feedback correction system has been developed and tested at the KEK Accelerator Test Facility, ATF2. The system uses the vertical position of the bunch measured at two beam position monitors to calculate a pair of kicks which are applied to the next bunch using two upstream kickers, thereby correcting both the vertical position and trajectory angle.
