The European Commission has funded within its 6th Framework Programme a three-year project (2005–2007) called CONRAD, COordinated Network for RAdiation Dosimetry. A major task of the CONRAD Work Package “complex mixed radiation fields at workplaces” was to organise a benchmark exercise in a workplace field at a high-energy particle accelerator where neutrons are the dominant radiation component. Ambient dose-equivalent results from an in-flight comparison between different tissue-equivalent proportional counters and silicon diode spectrometers from seven European institutes are presented and compared with calculations using the EPCARD computer program. The measurements were performed on 40 000 and 32 000 ft in narrow target areas at latitudes N57° and N42° . [...]

REFLECT – Research flight of EURADOS and CRREAT: Intercomparison of various radiation dosimeters onboard aircraft / Ambrožová, Iva (Rez, Nucl. Phys. Inst.) ; Beck, Peter (Seibersdorf, Reaktorzentrum) ; Benton, Eric R (Rez, Nucl. Phys. Inst. ; Oklahoma State U.) ; Billnert, Robert (Unlisted, SE) ; Bottollier-Depois, Jean-Francois (IRSN, France) ; Caresana, Marco (Milan Polytechnic) ; Dinar, Nesrine (CERN) ; Domański, Szymon (NCBJ, Warsaw) ; Gryziński, Michał A (NCBJ, Warsaw) ; Kákona, Martin (Rez, Nucl. Phys. Inst. ; Prague, Tech. U.) et al.
Aircraft crew are one of the groups of radiation workers which receive the highest annual exposure to ionizing radiation. Validation of computer codes used routinely for calculation of the exposure due to cosmic radiation and the observation of nonpredictable changes in the level of the exposure due to solar energetic particles, requires continuous measurements onboard aircraft.
