Tracer diffusion of 44Ti, 46Sc and 89Zr in the hexagonal close-packed (HCP) HfScTiZr multicomponent alloy is investigated using the radiotracer technique. The microstructure stability is thoroughly examined by conducting prolonged heat treatments between 873 K and 1373 K to mimic the diffusion conditions. [...]

Strong magnetoelectric coupling at an atomic nonmagnetic electromagnetic probe in bismuth ferrite / Schell, Juliana (CERN ; Duisburg-Essen U.) ; Schmuck, Merlin (Duisburg-Essen U.) ; Efe, İpek (Zurich, ETH) ; Dang, Thien Thanh (Duisburg-Essen U.) ; Gonçalves, João Nuno (Aveiro U.) ; Lewin, Daniil (Duisburg-Essen U.) ; Castillo, Marianela Escobar (Duisburg-Essen U.) ; Shvartsman, Vladimir V (Duisburg-Essen U.) ; Costa, Ângelo Rafael Granadeiro (CERN ; Lisbon, IST) ; Köster, Ulli (Laue-Langevin Inst.) et al.
Isolated nonmagnetic substitutional defect ions experience huge coupled electric magnetic interaction in the single-phase multiferroic BiFeO$_{3}$. In the ferroelectric state above the magnetic Néel temperature $T$$_{N}$, the electric environment generates a single symmetric electric field gradient (EFG) parallel to the electric polarization direction. In this paper, we present a study of the temperature-dependent characteristics of electromagnetic fields at the atomic scale in multiferroic bismuth ferrite (BiFeO$_3$ or BFO). The study was performed using time differential perturbed angular correlation (TDPAC) spectroscopy on implanted 111In (111Cd) probes over a wide temperature range. [...]

Investigation of the local environment of SnO$_{2}$ in an applied magnetic field / Schell, J (CERN ; U. Duisburg-Essen) ; Dang, T T (U. Duisburg-Essen ; Bonn U., HISKP) ; Zyabkin, D V (Ilmenau Tech. U. ; Palacky U.) ; Mansano, R D (Sao Paulo U.) ; Gaertner, D (Munster U.) ; Carbonari, A W (IPEN, Sao Paulo)
This paper presents the results of time-differential perturbed gamma–gamma angular correlation measurements of SnO$_{2}$ thin films carried out in an applied magnetic field. The measurements were performed upon the implantation of Fe at 80 keV and $^{111}$In($^{111}$Cd) at 160 keV. [...]

The local environment in titanium dioxide was studied by the time dependent perturbed $\gamma\gamma$ angular correlation of $^{111}In/^{111}Cd$ and $^{181}Hf/^{181}Ta$ at the Helmholtz-Institut fur Strahlen-und Kernphysik, Bonn. An introduction to the implantation methodologies performed at the Bonn Radioisotope Separator is presented. [...]

Multiferroic bismuth ferrite: Perturbed angular correlation studies on its ferroic $\alpha$-$\beta$ phase transition / Marschick, G (Vienna, Tech. U. ; CERN) ; Schell, J (CERN ; U. Duisburg-Essen) ; Stöger, B (Vienna, Tech. U.) ; Gonçalves, J N (Aveiro U.) ; Karabasov, M O (U. Duisburg-Essen) ; Zyabkin, D (Ilmenau Tech. U.) ; Welker, A (CERN) ; Escobar C , M (U. Duisburg-Essen) ; Gärtner, D (Munster U.) ; Efe, I (Zurich, ETH) et al.
Work of numerous research groups has shown different outcomes of studies of the transition from the ferroelectric $\alpha$-phase to the high temperature $\beta$-phase of the multiferroic, magnetoelectric perovskite Bismuth Ferrite (BiFeO$_{3}$ or BFO). Using the perturbed angular correlation (PAC) method with $^{111m}$Cd as the probe nucleus, the $\alpha$ to $\beta$ phase transition was characterized. [...]

Yttrium Oxide Freeze-Casts: Target Materials for Radioactive Ion Beams / Kröll, Eva (U. Duisburg-Essen) ; Vadalà, Miriana (U. Duisburg-Essen) ; Schell, Juliana (U. Duisburg-Essen ; CERN) ; Stegemann, Simon (CERN) ; Ballof, Jochen (CERN) ; Rothe, Sebastian (CERN) ; Lupascu, Doru C (U. Duisburg-Essen)
Highly porous yttrium oxide is fabricated as ion beam target material in order to produce radioactive ion beams via the Isotope Separation On Line (ISOL) method. Freeze casting allows the formation of an aligned pore structure in these target materials to improve the isotope release. Aqueous suspensions containing a solid loading of 10, 15, and 20 vol% were solidified with a unidirectional freeze-casting setup. [...]
