The mechanical behavior of the EIC beam screen during a magnet quench
/ Morrone, Marco (CERN) ; Garion, Cedric (CERN) ; Hetzel, Charles (Brookhaven Natl. Lab.) ; Chiggiato, Paolo (CERN)
As part of the Electron-Ion Collide (EIC) upgrade at Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL), the development of new beam screens for the vacuum system is underway. The mechanical design of the beam screens received support from CERN, particularly in addressing the mechanical response during a magnet quench, i.e. [...]

Mechanical Design of the High Luminosity Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC) Beam Screen through a Multiphysics Model
/ Morrone, Marco (Imperial Coll., London ; CERN) ; Garion, Cedric (CERN) ; Aurisicchio, Marco (Imperial Coll., London) ; Chiggiato, Paolo (CERN)
A novel numerical model to estimate the mechanical behaviour of the new HL - LHC beam screen duri ng a magnet quench is presented. The temperature rise due to the resistive losses of the induced currents is considered [...]

Material characterisation and preliminary mechanical design for the HL-LHC shielded beam screens operating at cryogenic temperatures
/ Garion, C (CERN) ; Dufay-Chanat, L (CERN) ; Koettig, T (CERN) ; Machiocha, W (CERN) ; Morrone, M (CERN)
The High Luminosity LHC project (HL-LHC) aims at increasing the luminosity (rate of collisions) in the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) experiments by a factor of 10 beyond the original design value (from 300 to 3000 fb-1). It relies on new superconducting magnets, installed close to the interaction points, equipped with new beam screen. [...]

Magnetic Frequency Response of High-Luminosity Large Hadron Collider Beam Screens
/ Morrone, M (CERN ; Imperial Coll., London) ; Martino, Michele (CERN) ; De Maria, Riccardo (CERN) ; Fitterer, Miriam (FNAL) ; Garion, Cedric (CERN)
Magnetic fields used to control particle beams in accelerators are usually controlled by regulating the electrical current of the power converters. In order to minimize lifetime degradation and ultimately luminosity loss in circular colliders, current-noise is a highly critical figure of merit of power converters, in particular for magnets located in areas with high beta-function, like the High-Luminosity Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC) insertions. Parametric study on the thermal performance of beam screen samples of the High-Luminosity LHC upgrade
/ Borges de Sousa, P (CERN) ; Morrone, M (CERN) ; Hovenga, N (CERN) ; Garion, C (CERN) ; Van Weelderen, R (CERN) ; Koettig, T (CERN) ; Bremer, J (CERN)
The High-Luminosity upgrade of the Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC) will increase the accelerator's luminosity by a factor 10 beyond its original design value, giving rise to more collisions and generating an intense flow of debris. A new beam screen has been designed for the inner triplets that incorporates tungsten alloy blocks to shield the superconducting magnets and the 1.9 K superfluid helium bath from incoming radiation. Study on heat transfer between the High-Luminosity LHC beam screens and the He II-cooled beam tube
/ Borges de Sousa, P (CERN) ; Morrone, M (CERN) ; Garion, C (CERN) ; Van Weelderen, R (CERN) ; Koettig, T (CERN) ; Bremer, J (CERN)
The new beam screens for the inner triplets in the HL-LHC are designed to intercept heat loads of up to 25 Wm$^{-1}$ between 60 K and 80 K. The screens need to be mechanically supported by the beam tube at 1.9 K while limiting heat transfer to the same tube to less than 0.5 W m$^{-1}$. [...]

In the context of the Future Circular Collider hadron-hadron (FCC-hh) R&D; program, the Italian Institute of Nuclear Physics (INFN), in collaboration with CERN, is responsible for designing and constructing the Falcon Dipole (Future Accelerator post-LHC Costheta Optimized Nb₃Sn Dipole), which is an important step towards the construction of High Field Nb₃Sn magnets for a post LHC collider. The magnet is a short model with one aperture of 50 mm and the target bore field is 12 T (14 T ’ultimate’ field). [...]
