A measurement of the photonuclear interactions of 180 GeV muons in iron / Alexa, C ; Anderson, K ; Antonaki, A ; Batusov, V ; Berglund, S ; Biscarat, C ; Blanch, O ; Blancot, G ; Bogush, A A ; Bohm, C et al.
The energy spectrum and the cross section of photonuclear interactions of 180 GeV muons in iron were measured at the CERN SPS using prototype modules of the ATLAS hadron calorimeter. The differential cross section (N/sub A//A)vd sigma /dv for a muon fractional energy loss v = Delta E/sub mu //E/sub mu / was measured in the range 0.1< v <1. [...]

Flux normalized charged current neutrino cross sections up to neutrino energies of 260 GeV / Barish, B C ; Bartlett, F ; Blair, R ; Bodek, A ; Edwards, D N ; Edwards, H ; Fackler, O ; Fisk, E ; Fukushima, Y ; Jenkins, K et al.
Preliminary measurements of flux normalized charged current neutrino cross sections are presented. From a sample of 6000 neutrino events with energies between 50 and 260 GeV the authors find that sigma /sub nu //E/sub nu /=(0.67+or-0.04)*10/sup -38/ cm/sup 2//GeV independent of neutrino energy. Measurement of muon-neutrino and -antineutrino scattering off electrons / Faissner, Helmut ; Baldo-Ceolin, M ; Bobisut, F ; De Witt, H ; Fasold, H G ; Frenzel, E ; Hansl, T ; Hoffmann, D ; Huzita, H ; Loreti, M et al.
Muon-neutrino and -antineutrino scattering off electrons was detected in a 19-ton Al spark chamber, exposed to the wide-band nu ( nu ) beam from the CERN proton synchrotron. The background was determined experimentally. [...]

Upper limit to the cross-section for the process nu /sub mu /+e/sup -/ to nu /sub mu /+e/sup -/ / Blietschau, J ; Aubert, B ; Bellotti, E ; Bertrand-Coremans, G ; Blondel, A ; Blum, D ; Bonetti, S ; Brisson, V ; Bullock, F W ; Cavalli, D et al.
An upper limit of 3*10/sup -42/ E/sub nu / cm/sup 2/ per electron, at 90% confidence level, has been obtained for the cross section of the process nu /sub mu /+e/sup -/ to nu /sub mu /+e/sup -/, interpreted in the usual V-A framework, for an electron recoil energy larger than 0.3 GeV. This estimate is based on the observation of one candidate event in exposures of Gargamelle to the CERN PS neutrino beam. [...]

Charged-particle multiplicities in pp interactions and comparison with e/sup +/e/sup -/ data / Basile, M ; Cifarelli, L ; Contin, A ; D'Ali, G ; Di Cesare, P ; Esposito, B ; Giusti, P ; Massam, Thomas ; Nania, R ; Palmonari, F et al.
By using three different c.m. energies in pp interactions, square root s=30, 44, 62 GeV, it is shown that the average charged-particle multiplicity (n/sub ch/) scales with square root s once the correct hadronic energy available for multiparticle production, E/sub had/, is used as basic parameter. An analysis of topological cross-sections in p.bar.p interactions at 22.4 GeV/c / Suk, M
The inelastic topological cross sections are found to be in agreement with expected behaviour at high energy. Average charged multiplicity at 22.4 GeV/c is (n/sub ch/)=4.69+or-0.05. [...]

Charged particle and pi0 multiplicity distributions and the annihilation properties of $\overline{p}$p interactions at 70 GeV/c / Dumont, J J ; Lemonne, J ; Vanhomwegen, G ; Verbeure, F ; Wickens, J H ; Hagman, V M ; Keski-Kuha, R A M ; Tuominiemi, Jorma ; Valtonen, K ; Estruch, J A et al.
The elastic and inelastic pp cross sections at 70 GeV/c have been determined in an experiment performed at CERN using BEBC equipped with a TST. The topological cross sections were measured and the moments of the inelastic multiplicity distribution are (n/sub c/)=6.16+or-0.09, (n/sub c/)/D=2.04+or-0.05 and f/sub 2//sup cc/=2.97+or-0.03. [...]

Production of vector and tensor mesons in proton-proton collisions at square root s=525 GeV / Drijard, Daniel ; Della Negra, Michel ; Fischer, H G ; Fontaine, G ; Frehse, H ; Geist, W ; Ghesquière, C ; Gokieli, R ; Hanke, P ; Heiden, M et al.
Inclusive production of rho /sup 0/, f, and g/sup 0/ mesons and of K /sub s//sup 0/, K*/sup 0/(892), phi and K*/sup 0/ (1430) mesons has been measured at (p) approximately 2.6 and to (p/sub T/) approximately 1.1 GeV/c in proton-proton interactions at square root s=52.5 GeV. The negative particle from the two-body decays of these resonances were identified by a threshold Cerenkov counter and used for triggering. [...]

A sample of 357 events fitting the reaction nu +p to mu /sup -/+p+ pi /sup +/ on free proton is obtained from the Gargamelle neutrino propane experiment at the CERN-PS. The average value of the cross section above 1 GeV is found to be (0.60+or-0.07)10/sup -38/ cm/sup 2 /. [...]

The LHCb trigger / Dijkstra, H
LHCb will study CP violation and other rare phenomena in B-decays with a forward spectrometer at the LHC. The LHCb trigger has to efficiently select a few Hz of interesting B-decays from a non- elastic pp interaction cross-section of 80 mb, which corresponds to 16 MHz of interactions at the preferred LHCb luminosity of 2 * 10/sup 32/ cm/sup -2/s/sup -1/.
