The LHCb DAQ Upgrade for LHC Run3
/ Colombo, Tommaso (CERN) ; Durante, Paolo (CERN) ; Galli, Domenico (INFN, Bologna) ; Marconi, Umberto (INFN, Bologna) ; Neufeld, Niko (CERN) ; Pisani, Flavio (CERN ; INFN, Bologna ; Bologna U.) ; Schwemmer, Rainer (CERN) ; Valat, Sébastien (CERN) ; Voneki, Balazs (CERN)
In order to optimize the physics reach in the large hadron collider (LHC) Run3, foreseen in the years 2021 and beyond, the LHC beauty experiment collaboration has decided to re-design its detector and the data acquisition system (DAQ). The new detector will operate at the LHC bunch-crossing frequency of 40 MHz without hardware trigger. [...]

FLIT-level InfiniBand network simulations of the DAQ system of the LHCb experiment for Run-3
/ Colombo, Tommaso (CERN) ; Durante, Paolo (CERN) ; Galli, Domenico (Bologna U. ; INFN, Bologna) ; Manzali, Matteo (INFN, Bologna) ; Marconi, Umberto (INFN, Bologna) ; Neufeld, Niko (CERN) ; Pisani, Flavio (CERN ; Bologna U. ; INFN, Bologna) ; Schwemmer, Rainer (CERN) ; Valat, Sébastien (CERN)
The LHCb (Large Hadron Collider beauty) experiment is designed to study differences between particles and anti-particles as well as very rare decays in the charm and beauty sector at the LHC (Large Hadron Collider). The detector will be upgraded in 2019 and a new trigger-less readout system will be implemented in order to significantly increase its efficiency and take advantage of the increased machine luminosity. Design and Commissioning of the First 32-Tbit/s Event-Builder
/ Pisani, Flavio (CERN) ; Colombo, Tommaso (CERN) ; Durante, Paolo (CERN) ; Frank, Markus (CERN) ; Gaspar, Clara (CERN) ; Granado Cardoso, Luis (CERN) ; Neufeld, Niko (CERN) ; Perro, Alberto (CERN ; INFN, Turin ; Turin U.)
The large hadron collider beauty (LHCb) experiment is a forward spectrometer, designed to study beauty
and charm quarks physics at the large hadron collider (LHC).
To exploit of the higher luminosity that will be delivered during
Run3, the full experiment needed a substantial upgrade, from
the detector to the data acquisition (DAQ) and high level trigger
(HLT). In this article, we will focus on the new DAQ system
for the LHCb experiment that represents a substantial paradigm
shift compared to the previous one, and to similar systems used by
similar experiments in the past and present times. [...]

FELIX: the New Detector Interface for the ATLAS Experiment
/ Wu, Weihao (Brookhaven Natl. Lab.)
/ATLAS TDAQ Collaboration
During the next major shutdown (2019-2020), the ATLAS experiment at the LHC will adopt the Front-End Link eXchange (FELIX) system as the interface between the data acquisition, detector control and TTC (Timing, Trigger and Control) systems and new or updated trigger and detector front-end electronics. FELIX will function as a router between custom serial links from front-end ASICs and FPGAs to data collection and processing components via a commodity switched network. [...]

The Real-Time System for Distribution of Clock, Control and Monitoring Commands With Fixed Latency of the LHCb Experiment at CERN
/ Feo, Mauricio (CERN) ; Alessio, Federico (CERN) ; Durante, Paolo (CERN) ; Granado Cardoso, Luís (CERN) ; Vouters, Guillaume (Annecy, LAPP)
The Large Hadron Collider beauty (LHCb) experiment has gone through a major upgrade for LHC Run 3 at European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), scheduled to start in the middle of 2022. The entire readout system of the experiment has been replaced by front-end and back-end electronics that are able to record LHC events at the full LHC bunch crossing rate of 40 MHz. [...]

The new Muon-to-Central-Trigger-Processor Interface at ATLAS
/ Afik, Yoav (CERN) ; ATLAS TDAQ Collaboration
/ATLAS Collaboration
The ATLAS trigger system includes a Level-1 (L1) trigger based on custom electronics and firmware, and a high-level trigger based on off-the-shelf hardware and processing software. The L1 trigger system uses information from the calorimeters and from the muon trigger detectors, consisting of Resistive Plate Chambers in the barrel, and of Thin-Gap Chambers, small-strip Thin-Gap Chambers and MicroMegas in the endcaps.
