Isobar Suppression by Photodetachment in a Gas-Filled RF Quadrupole Ion Guide / Liu, Yuan ; Beene, James R ; Havener, Aaron ; Havener, Charles ; Liang, Felix
A novel method is described for selective suppression of isobar contaminants in negative radioactive ion beams. Negative ion beams extracted from an ion source were decelerated to low energies and injected into a gas-filled radio-frequency quadrupole (RFQ) ion guide where the ions were cooled and unwanted ions were selectively removed by non-resonant photodetachment with photons of sufficient energy. Selective laser photodetachment of intense atomic and molecular negative ion beams with the ILIAS RFQ ion beam cooler / Martschini, Martin (Vienna U.) ; Pitters, Johanna (Vienna U. ; CERN) ; Moreau, Tobias (Vienna U.) ; Andersson, Pontus (Vienna U. ; Chalmers U. Tech.) ; Forstner, Oliver (Vienna U. ; Jena U.) ; Hanstorp, Dag (U. The Ion Laser InterAction Setup (ILIAS) project at the University of Vienna aims at the exploration of negative ion beam filtering by selective laser photodetachment for applications in accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS). A gas-filled radio frequency quadrupole (RFQ) is used to decelerate and cool negative atomic and molecular ion beams with intensities of up to several hundred nA, and overlap them collinearly with a continuous wave (cw) laser beam. Beam cooling using a gas-filled RFQ ion guide / Henry, S ; Martel-Bravo, I ; De Saint-Simon, M ; Jacotin, M ; Képinski, J F ; Lunney, M D
A radiofrequency quadrupole mass filter is being developed for use as a high-transmission beam cooler by operating it in buffer gas at high pressure. Such a device will increase the sensitivity of on-line experiments that make use of weakly produced radioactive ion beams. [...]

A novel scheme for a highly selective laser ion source / Blaum, K ; Geppert, C ; Kluge, H J ; Mukherjee, M ; Schwarz, S ; Wendt, K
A new type of resonance ionization laser ion source, which shall combine the advantages of a laser ion source with those of an ion trap, is proposed. The primary purpose of such a laser ion source trap, which is based on a gas-filled linear radio-frequency quadrupole ion trap system, is the decoupling of evaporation and ionization processes. [...]
