Radiological characterization for the disposal of a decommissioned LHC external beam dump at CERN / Infantino, Angelo (CERN) ; Harbron, Richard William (CERN) ; Mouret, Renaud (CERN) ; Bertreix, Philippe (CERN) ; Bernardes, Ana-Paula (CERN) ; Bruno, Luca (CERN) ; Calviani, Marco (CERN) ; Dumont, Gerald (CERN) ; El-Idrissi, Safouane (CERN) ; Magistris, Matteo (CERN) et al.
During the last Long Shutdown, a scheduled maintenance period between physics runs, the two Large Hadron Collider (LHC) beam dumps were replaced with upgraded spares modules. It was then decided to conduct an in-house autopsy and a post-irradiation examination of the removed dumps to extract information essential for the 3rd LHC physics run and to aid the design of new generations of beam dumps able to cope with future upgrades of the LHC. Open is not enough / Chen, Xiaoli (CERN ; Sheffield U.) ; Dallmeier-Tiessen, Sünje (CERN) ; Dasler, Robin (CERN) ; Feger, Sebastian (CERN ; Stuttgart U.) ; Fokianos, Pamfilos (CERN) ; Gonzalez, Jose Benito (CERN) ; Hirvonsalo, Harri (CERN ; Helsinki Inst. of Phys.) ; Kousidis, Dinos (CERN) ; Lavasa, Artemis (CERN) ; Mele, Salvatore (CERN) et al.
The solutions adopted by the high-energy physics community to foster reproducible research are examples of best practices that could be embraced more widely. This first experience suggests that reproducibility requires going beyond openness..

Progress and R/D challenges for FCC-ee SRF / Venturini Delsolaro, W (CERN) ; Garlasche, M (CERN) ; Peauger, F (CERN) ; Rosaz, G (CERN) ; Karpov, I (CERN) ; Zhang, L (Beijing, Inst. High Energy Phys.) ; Valente Feliciano, A M (Jefferson Lab) ; Udongwo, S A (Rostock U.) ; Bianchi, A (CERN) ; Bellini, G (CERN) et al.
The FCC-ee machines present a huge challenge for the RF systems, which need to be adapted to very diverse beam conditions going from moderate energy and high current for the Z machine to high energy and low beam current for the ttbar. This inverse scaling results naturally from a fixed budget for the synchrotron radiation, which the SRF cavities need to compensate. [...]

Role of surface microgeometries on electron escape probability and secondary electron yield of metal surfaces / Bajek, D (U. Dundee) ; Wackerow, S (U. Dundee) ; Zanin, D A (CERN) ; Baudin, L (CERN) ; Bogdanowicz, K (CERN) ; Valdivieso, E Garcia-Tabares (CERN) ; Calatroni, S (CERN) ; Di Girolamo, B (CERN) ; Sitko, M (CERN) ; Himmerlich, M (CERN) et al.
The influence of microgeometries on the Secondary Electron Yield (SEY) of surfaces is investigated. Laser written structures of different aspect ratio (height to width) on a copper surface tuned the SEY of the surface and reduced its value to less than unity. [...]

Measurement of the 244244 Cm and 246 Cm Neutron-Induced Cross Sections at the n_TOF Facility / Alcayne, V (Madrid, CIEMAT) ; Kimura, A (JAERI, Tokai) ; Mendoza, E (Madrid, CIEMAT) ; Cano-Ott, D (Madrid, CIEMAT) ; Aberle, O (CERN) ; Amaducci, S (INFN, Catania) ; Andrzejewski, J (Lodz U.) ; Audouin, L (Orsay, IPN) ; Babiano-Suarez, V (Valencia U., IFIC) ; Bacak, M (CERN ; Vienna, Tech. U.) et al.
The neutron capture reactions of the244 Cm and246 Cm isotopes open the path for the formation of heavier Cm isotopes and of heavier elements such as Bk and Cf in a nuclear reactor. In addition, both isotopes belong to the minor actinides with a large contribution to the decay heat and to the neutron emission in irradiated fuels proposed for the transmutation of nuclear waste and fast critical reactors. Nb3Sn 11 T Dipole for the High Luminosity LHC (CERN) / Bordini, Bernardo (CERN) ; Bottura, Luca (CERN) ; Devred, Arnaud (CERN) ; Fiscarelli, Lucio (CERN) ; Karppinen, Mikko (CERN) ; de Rijk, Gijs (CERN) ; Rossi, Lucio (CERN ; Milan Bicocca U.) ; Savary, Frédéric (CERN) ; Willering, Gerard (CERN)
This chapter describes the design of, and parameters for, the 11 T dipole developed at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) for the High Luminosity Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC) project. The results for testing the short models as well as the first 5 m long magnet are also presented. [...]

Multiple scattering of positively charged particles moving near the (111) plane in a silicon single crystal / Scandale, W (Imperial Coll., London) ; Cerutti, F (CERN) ; Esposito, L S (CERN) ; Garattini, M (CERN) ; Gilardoni, S (CERN) ; Losito, R (CERN) ; Masi, A (CERN) ; Mirarchi, D (CERN) ; Redaelli, S (CERN) ; Smirnov, G (CERN) et al.
The article is devoted to the study of the suppression of multiple scattering of positively charged particles with momenta of 180 GeV/c and 400 GeV/c passing through bent single crystals of silicon at small angles to the plane (111) both in channeling mode and in the above-barrier state. For the first time, the suppression of the effect of multiple scattering of non-channeling particles passing at a small angle to one of the planes of a silicon single crystal was observed. [...]
