High-spin states of $^{218}$Th / O'Donnell, D (SUPA, UK ; Liverpool U. ; IIT, Roorkee) ; Page, R D (Liverpool U.) ; Grahn, T (Jyvaskyla U.) ; Ali, F A (Liverpool U. ; Sulaimaniya U.) ; Auranen, K (Jyvaskyla U.) ; Capponi, L (SUPA, UK) ; Carroll, R J (Liverpool U.) ; Chishti, M M R (SUPA, UK) ; Drummond, M C (Liverpool U.) ; Greenlees, P T (Jyvaskyla U.) et al.
High-spin states in the $N = 128$ nucleus $^{218}$Th have been investigated following fusion–evaporation reactions, using the recoil-decay tagging technique. Due to the short-lived nature of the ground state of $^{218}$Th prompt $\gamma$ rays have been correlated with the $\alpha$ decay of the daughter nucleus $^{214}$Ra. [...]

Population of a low-spin positive-parity band from high-spin intruder states in $^{177}$Au: The two-state mixing effect / Venhart, M (Bratislava, Inst. Phys.) ; Balogh, M (Bratislava, Inst. Phys.) ; Herzáň, A (Bratislava, Inst. Phys.) ; Wood, J L (Georgia Tech., Atlanta) ; Ali, F A (Liverpool U. ; Sulaimaniya U.) ; Joss, D T (Liverpool U.) ; Andreyev, A N (York U., England ; JAERI, Tokai) ; Auranen, K (Jyvaskyla U.) ; Carroll, R J (Liverpool U.) ; Drummond, M C (Liverpool U.) et al.
The extremely neutron-deficient isotopes $^{177,179}$Au were studied by means of in-beam γ -ray spectroscopy. Specific tagging techniques, α -decay tagging in $^{177}$Au and isomer tagging in $^{179}$Au, were used for these studies. [...]

Restoring the valence-shell stabilization in $^{140}$Nd / Kern, R (Darmstadt, Tech. U.) ; Zidarova, R (Darmstadt, Tech. U. ; Sofiya U.) ; Pietralla, N (Darmstadt, GSI) ; Rainovski, G (Sofiya U.) ; Stegmann, R (Darmstadt, GSI) ; Blazhev, A (Cologne U.) ; Boukhari, A (CERN) ; Cederkäll, J (CERN ; Lund U. (main)) ; Cubiss, J G (York U., England) ; Djongolov, M (Sofiya U.) et al.
A projectile Coulomb-excitation experiment was performed at the radioactive-ion beam facility HIE-ISOLDE at CERN to obtain $E2$ and $M1$ transition matrix elements of $^{140}$Nd using the multistep Coulomb-excitation code GOSIA. The absolute $M1$ strengths, $\textrm{B}(M1;2^+_2→2^+_1)=0.033(8)μ^2_N,\textrm{B}(M1;2^+_3→2^+_1)=0.26^{+0.11}_{−0.10}μ^2_N$, and $\textrm{B}(M1;2^+_4→2^+_1)<0.04μ^2_{\textrm{N}}$, identify the $2^+_3$ state as the main fragment of the one-quadrupole-phonon proton-neutron mixed-symmetry state of $^{140}$Nd. Excited states in $^{217}$Ra populated in the α decay of $^{221}$Th / Parr, E (West Scotland U. ; SUPA, UK) ; Smith, J F (West Scotland U. ; SUPA, UK) ; Greenlees, P T (Jyvaskyla U.) ; Auranen, K (Jyvaskyla U.) ; Chapman, R (West Scotland U. ; SUPA, UK) ; Cullen, D M (Manchester U.) ; Grahn, T (Jyvaskyla U.) ; Grocutt, L (West Scotland U. ; SUPA, UK) ; Herzáň, A (Jyvaskyla U. ; Bratislava, Inst. Phys.) ; Herzberg, R D (Liverpool U.) et al.
Fine structure in the α decay of $^{221}_{90}$Th, populating excited states in $^{217}_{88}$Ra, was studied using αγ-coincidence spectroscopy. Two α-decay branches from $^{221}$Th have been newly observed, with $E_{\alpha} \mathrm{(keV)} [b_{\alpha}(\%)]=7951(8)[0.14(3)]$ and $8247(3)[1.51(12)]$, together with three previously known branches. Isomeric 13/2$^+$ state in $^{201}$Fr / Auranen, K (Jyvaskyla U.) ; Jakobsson, U (Jyvaskyla U.) ; Badran, H (Jyvaskyla U.) ; Grahn, T (Jyvaskyla U.) ; Greenlees, P T (Jyvaskyla U.) ; Herzáň, A (Jyvaskyla U. ; Bratislava, Inst. Phys.) ; Julin, R (Jyvaskyla U.) ; Juutinen, S (Jyvaskyla U.) ; Konki, J (Jyvaskyla U. ; CERN) ; Leino, M (Jyvaskyla U.) et al.
We have identified an isomeric state in $^{201}$Fr for which we propose a spin and parity of $13/2^+$, and interpret it as arising from the $\pi(i_{13/2})$ configuration. A half-life of 720(40) ns was measured, corresponding to $B(M2)=0.17(2)$ W.u., in good agreement with those of other $13/2^+ \to 9/2^- [\pi (i_{13/2}) \to \pi(h_{9/2})]$ transitions observed in other nuclei in the region. High-precision half-life determination of $^{14}$O via direct $\beta $ counting / Sharma, S. (Regina U.) ; Grinyer, G.F. (Regina U.) ; Ball, G.C. (TRIUMF) ; Leslie, J.R. (Queen's U., Kingston) ; Svensson, C.E. (Guelph U.) ; Ali, F.A. (Guelph U. ; Sulaimaniya U.) ; Andreoiu, C. (Simon Fraser U., Dept. Chem.) ; Bernier, N. (TRIUMF ; British Columbia U. ; Western Cape U. ; Zululand U.) ; Bhattacharjee, S.S. (TRIUMF) ; Bildstein, V. (Guelph U.) et al.
The half-life of the superallowed Fermi $\beta^+$ emitter $^{14}$O was determined to high precision via a direct $\beta$ counting experiment performed at the Isotope Separator and Accelerator (ISAC) facility at TRIUMF. The result, $T_{1/2}$($^{14}$O) = 70619.2(76) ms, is consistent with, but is more precise than, the world average obtained from 11 previous measurements. [...]

The observation of vibrating pear-shapes in radon nuclei / Butler, P.A. (Liverpool U.) ; Gaffney, L.P. (Liverpool U. ; CERN) ; Spagnoletti, P. (West Scotland U.) ; Konki, J. (CERN) ; Scheck, M. (West Scotland U.) ; Smith, J.F. (West Scotland U.) ; Abrahams, K. (Western Cape U.) ; Bowry, M. (TRIUMF) ; Cederkäll, J. (Lund U.) ; Chupp, T. (Michigan U.) et al.
There is a large body of evidence that atomic nuclei can undergo octupole distortion and assume the shape of a pear. This phenomenon is important for measurements of electric-dipole moments of atoms, which would indicate CP violation and hence probe physics beyond the standard model of particle physics. [...]
