A high-resolution large-area detector for quality assurance in radiotherapy / Oliveira, Andreia Maia (CERN ; Bern U., LHEP ; MedAustron) ; B Akkerman, Hylke ; Braccini, Saverio (Bern U., LHEP) ; van Breemen, Albert J J M ; H Gelinck, Gerwin (Unlisted, NL) ; Heracleous, Natalie (CERN ; Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne) ; Leidner, Johannes (CERN ; Lausanne U.) ; Murtas, Fabrizio (CERN ; LNF, Dafne Light) ; Peeters, Bart ; Silari, Marco (CERN)
Hadron therapy is an advanced radiation modality for treating cancer, which currently uses protons and carbon ions. Hadrons allow for a highly conformal dose distribution to the tumour, minimising the detrimental side-effects due to radiation received by healthy tissues. [...]

Radiation-induced effects in glass windows for optical readout GEM-based detectors / Oliveira, A. Maia (CERN ; Bern U., LHEP) ; Braccini, S. (Bern U., LHEP) ; Casolaro, P. (Bern U., LHEP) ; Heracleous, N. (CERN) ; Leidner, J. (CERN) ; Mateu, I. (Bern U., LHEP) ; Murtas, F. (CERN ; Frascati) ; Silari, M. (CERN)
In this paper we present irradiation measurements performed to select a transparent anode substrate that best meets the requirements of an optical readout for a novel detector, the LaGEMPix. The modification of the optical properties of the material due to proton irradiation were studied in soda-lime, fused quartz and fused silica glasses coated with an Indium Tin Oxide layer. [...]

The GEMPix detector / Murtas, F (LNF, Dafne Light ; CERN)
The GEMPix is a novel detector developed at CERN, designed and built by coupling a small triple Gas Electron Multiplier with a quad Timepix ASIC for the readout. This structure has the advantage to have higher sensitivity to soft X-ray and high radiation tolerance for good spatial resolution of 2D images of intense particle beams. [...]

Neutron beam monitoring for time-of-flight facilities with gaseous detectors / Aza, Eleni (CERN ; Aristotle U., Thessaloniki) ; Magistris, Matteo (CERN) ; Murtas, Fabrizio (CERN ; Frascati) ; Puddu, Silvia (CERN ; Bern U., LHEP ; Bern U.) ; Silari, Marco (CERN)
Triple Gas Electron Multipliers (GEM) for slow and fast neutrons were employed at the n_TOF facility at CERN as online beam imaging monitors and for energy spectra measurements via the time-of-flight technique. The detectors were exposed to the neutron spectrum ranging from thermal to 1 GeV, produced by spallation of 20 GeV/c protons in a lead target with a maximum intensity of 7·10 12 protons per pulse. Medical Applications of the GEMPix / Leidner, Johannes (CERN) ; Murtas, Fabrizio (CERN ; LNF, Dafne Light) ; Silari, Marco (CERN)
The GEMPix is a small gaseous detector with a highly pixelated readout, consisting of a drift region, three Gas Electron Multipliers (GEMs) for signal amplification, and four Timepix ASICs with 55 µm pixel pitch and a total of 262,144 pixels. A continuous flow of a gas mixture such as Ar:CO2:CF4, Ar:CO2 or propane-based tissue equivalent gas is supplied externally at a rate of 5 L/h. [...]
