Production cross sections of cosmic antiprotons in the light of new data from the NA61 and LHCb experiments / Donato, Fiorenza (Turin U. ; INFN, Turin) ; Korsmeier, Michael (Turin U. ; INFN, Turin ; Aachen, Tech. Hochsch.) ; di Mauro, Mattia (NASA, Goddard ; Catholic U.)
The cosmic-ray flux of antiprotons is measured with unprecedented precision by the particle spectrometer AMS-02 on the International Space Station. Its interpretation requires a correct description of the dominant production process for antiprotons in our Galaxy, namely, the interaction of cosmic-ray proton and helium with the atoms of the interstellar medium. In light of new cross section measurements by the NA61 experiment of $p$ + $p$ $\rightarrow$ $\bar{p}$ + $X$ and the first ever measurement of $p$ + He $\rightarrow$ $\bar{p}$ + $X$ by the LHCb experiment in a fixed target configuration, we update the parametrization of proton-proton and proton-nucleon cross sections and their uncertainties. The new parametrizations for the cross section are used to derive the total source term of secondary antiprotons. Since uncertainties, in particular at low energies, are significantly larger than those on the measured antiproton fluxby the AMS-02 experiment, we finally quantify the necessity of new data on antiproton production cross sections, and pin down the kinematic parameter space which should be covered by future high-energy experiments..

Production cross sections of cosmic antiprotons in the light of new data from the NA61 and LHCb experiments / Korsmeier, Michael (INFN, Italy ; RWTH Aachen U. ; Turin U.) ; Donato, Fiorenza (INFN, Turin ; Turin U.) ; Di Mauro, Mattia (SLAC ; Stanford U., HEPL)
The cosmic-ray flux of antiprotons is measured with high precision by the space-borne particle spectrometers AMS-02.Its interpretation requires a correct description of the dominant production process for antiprotons in our Galaxy, namely, the interaction of cosmic-ray proton and helium with the interstellar medium. In the light of new cross section measurements by the NA61 experiment of $p + p \rightarrow \bar{p} + X$ and the first ever measurement of $p + \mathrm{He} \rightarrow \bar{p} + X$ by the LHCb experiment, we update the parametrization of proton-proton and proton-nucleon cross sections. We find that the LHCb $p$He data constrain a shape for the cross section at high energies and show for the first time how well the rescaling from the $pp$ channel applies to a helium target. Physics at CERN's Antiproton Decelerator / Hori, M. (Munich, Max Planck Inst. Quantenopt. ; Tokyo U.) ; Walz, J. (Mainz U., Inst. Phys. ; Helmholtz Inst., Mainz)
The Antiproton Decelerator of CERN began operation in 1999 to serve experiments for studies of CPT invariance by precision laser and microwave spectroscopy of antihydrogen ($\bar{\rm H}$) and antiprotonic helium ($\bar{p}{\rm He}^+$). The first 12 years of operation saw cold $\bar{\rm H}$ synthesized by overlapping clouds of positrons ($e^+$) and antiprotons ($\bar{p}$) confined in magnetic Penning traps. [...]

$e^+$ and $\bar{p}$ production in $pp$ collisions and the cosmic-ray $e^+/\bar{p}$ flux ratio / Blum, Kfir (Weizmann Inst. ; CERN) ; Sato, Ryosuke (Weizmann Inst.) ; Takimoto, Masahiro (Weizmann Inst. ; KEK, Tsukuba)
Secondary astrophysical production of $e^+$ and $\bar{p}$ cosmic rays is considered. Inclusive $\pi$, $K$, and $\bar{p}$ production cross sections in $pp$ collisions at large $\sqrt{s}$ are parametrised using recent experimental data at LHC energies. [...]

Results from AMS-02 on the ISS after 6 years in space / Vagelli, V (Perugia U. ; INFN, Perugia) /AMS Collaboration
AMS-02 is a cosmic-ray detector which has been operating on the International Space Station since May 2011 to conduct a unique mission of fundamental research in space. More than 100 billion cosmic rays have been collected by AMS-02 after 6 years of operations, providing a detailed insight into the features of different species of cosmic rays. [...]
