Numerical Analysis of Resonant Multipolar Instabilities in High Power Klystrons / Cai, Jinchi (Lancaster U.) ; Syratchev, Igor (CERN) ; Burt, Graeme (Lancaster U.)
The monopole monotron instability is a well-known phenomenon in linear beam devices. In recent development of a high-efficiency 50-MW X-band klystron, such instabilities were found and mitigated in a special second-harmonic multicell cavities triplet that is used to improve the klystron's performance. [...]

KlyC: 1.5-D large-signal simulation code for klystrons / Cai, Jinchi (CERN) ; Syratchev, Igor (CERN)
The High Efficiency International Klystron Activity (HEIKA) was initiated at CERN in 2014 to evaluate and develop new klystron bunching technologies for high-efficiency klystrons in application to the large-scale scientific projects such as the Compact Linear Collider (CLIC) and the Future Circular Collider (FCC). The success of such development strongly depends on the availability of the specialized klystron computer codes. [...]

Accurate Modeling of Monotron Oscillations in Small- and Large-Signal Regimes / Cai, Jinchi (Lancaster U. (main)) ; Syratchev, Igor (CERN) ; Burt, Graeme (Lancaster U. (main))
In Klystron amplifiers, monotron oscillations may cause unacceptable beam instabilities. For facilitating fast and accurate analysis of such processes, rather than performing time-consuming particle-in-cell simulations, the theory of the monotron oscillations has been further developed for the small- and large-signal regimes and implemented into the klystron computer code KlyC. This development includes full considerations of the spacecharge effects, relativistic effects and can operate with arbitrary field distributions of the resonant mode. [...]

Scaling Procedures and Post-Optimization for the Design of High-Efficiency Klystrons / Cai, Jinchi (CERN) ; Syratchev, Igor (CERN) ; Lui, Zening (Tsinghua U., Beijing)
A semianalytical parametric scaling procedure (PSP) for klystron design has been developed. The PSP allows existing klystron designs to be scaled to different operating frequencies, beam power, and perveance, while maintaining the electron bunching and deceleration processes. [...]

Modeling and Technical Design Study of Two-Stage Multibeam Klystron for CLIC / Cai, Jinchi (Lancaster U. (main)) ; Syratchev, Igor (CERN)
The RF power production efficiency is one of the major concerns in the 3-TeV Compact Linear Collider (CLIC) Drive Beam Accelerator, as it is responsible for almost 50% of the entire accelerator complex power consumption. The klystron technology with dc post acceleration of the prebunched beam was reconsidered recently, as an attempt to develop a technological solution for the high efficiency, high power L-band multibeam klystrons (MBKs). [...]

Beam Optics Study on a Two-Stage Multibeam Klystron for the Future Circular Collider / Cai, Jinchi (UESTC, Chengdu) ; Nisa, Zaib un (CERN) ; Syratchev, Igor (CERN) ; Burt, Graeme (Lancaster U.)
The two-stage (TS) multibeam klystron (MBK) technology has recently attracted significant research attention due to its compactness and high-efficiency (HE) performance. However, there is still a lack of scientific research on the beam optics for such microwave power sources integrated with a postacceleration (PA) gap. [...]

Design Study of a High-Power Ka-Band High-Order-Mode Multibeam Klystron / Cai, J C (Lancaster U. (main)) ; Syratchev, I (CERN) ; Burt, G (Lancaster U. (main))
Compactness and cost-effectiveness are two major concerns in the development of a Ka-band linearizer, which is a crucial accelerator component of the European CompactLight project. A higher order mode (HOM) multibeam Klystron (MBK) could accommodate a higher distributed electron current with a low operating voltage of 60 kV, thus making it competitive to deliver high RF power at high frequency compared with a single beam Klystron or a fundamental mode MBK. Exploratory Study on High-Efficiency High-Power W-Band Klystron Based on Kladistron Technology / Cai, J C (UESTC, Chengdu) ; Su, Z X (UESTC, Chengdu) ; Peauger, F (CERN) ; Xu, J (UESTC, Chengdu) ; Burt, G (Lancaster U. (main)) ; Yue, L N (UESTC, Chengdu) ; Yin, H R (UESTC, Chengdu) ; Zhao, G Q (UESTC, Chengdu) ; Xiang, W W (UESTC, Chengdu) ; Wei, Y Y (UESTC, Chengdu)
To achieve tens of kilowatt (kW) output power, ${W}$ -band klystron usually employs a large beam tunnel to accommodate high current. The deteriorated effective impedance of the cavity could be reenhanced by adopting extended interaction (EI) cavities. [...]

Modeling of Coupled Cell Output Structures for the Klystrons / Cai, J C (CERN) ; Syratchev, I (CERN)
High-frequency, high-power klystrons proved to be significant for application in compact particle accelerators, high-resolution radars, and fast data communication systems. As most of the linear beam devices, the performance of the klystron deteriorates progressively with an increasing operating frequency due to the reduction of individual RF cavity impedances. [...]
