Laser-wakefield accelerators are compact devices capable of delivering ultra-short electron bunches with pC-level charge and MeV-GeV energy by exploiting the ultra-high electric fields arising from the interaction of intense laser pulses with plasma. We show experimentally and through numerical simulations that a high-energy electron beam is produced simultaneously with two stable lowerenergy beams that are ejected in oblique and counter-propagating directions, typically carrying off 5–10% of the initial laser energy. Single-shot betatron source size measurement from a laser-wakefield accelerator
/ Köhler, A. (HZDR, Dresden ; TU, Dresden (main)) ; Couperus, J.P. (HZDR, Dresden ; TU, Dresden (main)) ; Zarini, O. (HZDR, Dresden ; TU, Dresden (main)) ; Jochmann, A. (HZDR, Dresden) ; Irman, A. (HZDR, Dresden) ; Schramm, U. (HZDR, Dresden ; TU, Dresden (main))
Betatron radiation emitted by accelerated electrons in laser-wakefield accelerators can be used as a diagnostic tool to investigate electron dynamics during the acceleration process. We analyze the spectral characteristics of the emitted Betatron pattern utilizing a 2D x-ray imaging spectroscopy technique. [...]

Simulation Study of an LWFA-based Electron Injector for AWAKE Run 2
/ Williamson, Barney (Manchester U. ; Cockcroft Inst. Accel. Sci. Tech.) ; Xia, Guoxing (Manchester U. ; Cockcroft Inst. Accel. Sci. Tech.) ; Döbert, Steffen (CERN) ; Karsch, Stefan (Munich, Max Planck Inst. Quantenopt.) ; Muggli, Patric (CERN ; Munich, Max Planck Inst.)
The AWAKE experiment aims to demonstrate preservation of injected electron beam quality during acceleration in proton-driven plasma waves. The short bunch duration required to correctly load the wakefield is challenging to meet with the current electron injector system, given the space available to the beamline. [...]

First Measurements of Trojan Horse Injection in a Plasma Wakefield Accelerator
/ Hidding, Bernhard (Glasgow U. ; Cockcroft Inst. Accel. Sci. Tech.) ; Adli, Erik (Oslo U. ; CERN) ; Andonian, Gerard (UCLA ; RadiaBeam Tech.) ; Beaton, Andrew (Cockcroft Inst. Accel. Sci. Plasma accelerators support accelerating fields of 100's of GV/m over meter-scale distances and routinely produce femtosecond-scale, multi-kA electron bunches. The so called Trojan Horse underdense photocathode plasma wakefield acceleration scheme combines state-of-the-art accelerator technology with laser and plasma methods and paves the way to improve beam quality as regards emittance and energy spread by many orders of magnitude.
