Ultrahigh energy cosmic ray deflection by the intergalactic magnetic field / Garcia, Andres Aramburo (Leiden U.) ; Bondarenko, Kyrylo (CERN ; Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne) ; Boyarsky, Alexey (Leiden U.) ; Nelson, Dylan (U. Heidelberg, ITP) ; Pillepich, Annalisa (Heidelberg, Max Planck Inst. Astron.) ; Sokolenko, Anastasia (Vienna, OAW)
The origin and composition of ultra-high energy cosmic rays (UHECRs) remain a mystery. The common lore is that UHECRs are deflected from their primary directions by the Galactic and extragalactic magnetic fields. [...]

Magnetization of the intergalactic medium in the IllustrisTNG simulations: the importance of extended, outflow-driven bubbles / Garcia, Andres Aramburo (Leiden U.) ; Bondarenko, Kyrylo (CERN ; Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne) ; Boyarsky, Alexey (Leiden U.) ; Nelson, Dylan (U. Heidelberg, ITP) ; Pillepich, Annalisa (Heidelberg, Max Planck Inst. Astron.) ; Sokolenko, Anastasia (Vienna, OAW)
We study the effects of galaxy formation physics on the magnetization of the intergalactic medium (IGM) using the IllustrisTNG simulations. We demonstrate that large-scale regions affected by the outflows from galaxies and clusters contain magnetic fields that are several orders of magnitude stronger than in unaffected regions with the same electron density. Effective photon mass and (dark) photon conversion in the inhomogeneous Universe / Garcia, Andres Aramburo (Leiden Observ. ; U. Leiden (main)) ; Bondarenko, Kyrylo (CERN ; Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne) ; Ploeckinger, Sylvia (U. Leiden (main)) ; Pradler, Josef (Vienna, OAW) ; Sokolenko, Anastasia (Vienna, OAW)
Photons traveling cosmological distances through the inhomogeneous Universe experience a great variation in their in-medium induced effective mass. Using the EAGLE suite of hydrodynamical simulations, we infer the free electron distribution and thereby the effective photon mass after reionization. [...]

Neutron stars as photon double-lenses: Constraining resonant conversion into ALPs / Bondarenko, Kyrylo (IFPU, Trieste ; SISSA, Trieste ; INFN, Trieste) ; Boyarsky, Alexey (Leiden U.) ; Pradler, Josef (Vienna, OAW ; Vienna U. ; CERN) ; Sokolenko, Anastasia (Fermilab ; Chicago U., KICP)
Axion-photon conversion is a prime mechanism to detect axion-like particles that share a coupling to the photon. We point out that in the vicinity of neutron stars with strong magnetic fields, magnetars, the effective photon mass receives comparable but opposite contributions from free electrons and the radiation field. [...]

From dwarf galaxies to galaxy clusters: Self-Interacting Dark Matter over 7 orders of magnitude in halo mass / Bondarenko, Kyrylo (CERN ; LPHE, Lausanne) ; Sokolenko, Anastasia (Vienna, OAW) ; Boyarsky, Alexey (Leiden U.) ; Robertson, Andrew (Durham U.) ; Harvey, David (Leiden U.) ; Revaz, Yves (LPHE, Lausanne)
In this paper we study the density profiles of self-interacting dark matter (SIDM) haloes spanning the full observable mass range, from dwarf galaxies to galaxy clusters. Using realistic simulations that model the baryonic physics relevant for galaxy formation, we compare the density profiles of haloes simulated with either SIDM or cold and collisionless dark matter (CDM) to those inferred from observations of stellar velocity dispersion, gas rotation curves, weak and strong gravitational lensing, and/or X-ray maps. Account of the baryonic feedback effect in γ-ray measurements of intergalactic magnetic fields / Bondarenko, Kyrylo (CERN ; Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne) ; Boyarsky, Alexey (Leiden U.) ; Korochkin, Alexander (APC, Paris ; Moscow, INR ; Novosibirsk State U.) ; Neronov, Andrii (APC, Paris ; U. Geneva (main)) ; Semikoz, Dmitri (APC, Paris ; Moscow, INR ; Moscow Phys. Eng. Inst.) ; Sokolenko, Anastasia (OAW, Vienna)
Intergalactic magnetic fields in the voids of the large-scale structure can be probed via measurements of secondary gamma-ray emission from gamma-ray interactions with extragalactic background light. Lower bounds on the magnetic field in the voids were derived from the non-detection of this emission. [...]

Searches for new physics at SND@LHC / Boyarsky, Alexey (Cosine, Leiden) ; Mikulenko, Oleksii (Cosine, Leiden ; Taras Shevchenko U.) ; Ovchynnikov, Maksym (Cosine, Leiden) ; Shchutska, Lesya (EPFL, Lausanne, FSL)
SND@LHC is an approved experiment equipped to detect scattering of neutrinos produced in the far-forward direction at the LHC, and aimed to measure their properties. In addition, the detector has a potential to search for new feebly interacting particles (FIPs) that may be produced in proton-proton collisions. [...]

Towards the optimal beam dump experiment to search for feebly interacting particles / Bondarenko, Kyrylo (SISSA, Trieste ; IFPU, Trieste ; INFN, Trieste) ; Boyarsky, Alexey (Leiden U.) ; Jacobsson, Richard (CERN) ; Mikulenko, Oleksii (Leiden U.) ; Ovchynnikov, Maksym (KIT, Karlsruhe, IAP ; Leiden U.)
Future searches for new physics beyond the Standard Model are without doubt in need of a diverse approach and experiments with complementary sensitivities to different types of classes of models. One of the directions that should be explored is feebly interacting particles (FIPs) with masses below the electroweak scale. [...]
