We present the progress related to CERN’s capacity of delivering highly penetrating, high-linear energy transfer (LET) heavy ions for radiation effect testing of electronic components within the CHARM High-energy Ions for Micro Electronics Reliability Assurance (CHIMERA) project. Profiting from the existing accelerator infrastructure, Monte Carlo simulations, and a 300- $\mu $ m-thick silicon diode, we highlight the beam characterization capabilities and a summary of the beam properties. Hybrid on-axis and off-axis top-up injection at the future circular lepton collider
/ Yue, Sen (CERN) ; Dutheil, Yann (CERN) ; Bartmann, Wolfgang (CERN) ; Johnson, Eliott (CERN) ; Martinek, Petr (CERN)
In order to maximize the integrated luminosity of the future circular lepton collider (FCC-ee), a top-up injection scheme is required. Amongst the four operation modes of FCC-ee, the Z operation mode has the highest stored beam energy in the collider ring with about 20 MJ per beam. [...]

Testing of space-bound microelectronics plays a crucial role in ensuring the reliability of electronics exposed to the challenging radiation environment of outer space. This contribution describes the beam optics studies carried out for the run held in November 2023 in the context of the CERN High-Energy Accelerators for Radiation Testing and Shielding (HEARTS) experiment. Up and Down Quark Structure of the Proton
/ D0 Collaboration
We measure proton structure parameters sensitive primarily to valence quarks using 8.6 fb$^{-1}$ of data collected by the D0 detector in $\sqrt{s}=1.96$ TeV $p\bar{p}$ collisions at the Fermilab Tevatron. We exploit the property of the forward-backward asymmetry in dilepton events to be factorized in to distinct structure parameters and electroweak quark-level asymmetries. [...]

Benchmarking simulations of slow extraction driven by RF transverse excitation at the CERN Proton Synchrotron
/ Bass, Thomas (CERN) ; Johnson, Eliott (CERN) ; Fraser, Matthew (CERN) ; Arrutia Sota, Pablo Andreas (CERN) ; Gibson, Stephen (Royal Holloway, U. of London) ; Dutheil, Yann (CERN)
Resonant slow extraction is a beam extraction method which provides a continuous spill over a longer duration than can be achieved with fast single-turn or non-resonant multi-turn extraction. By using transverse excitation to drive the circulating particles onto the resonance, a beam can be delivered to stationary target experiments which require low intensity, long-duration beams. In order to accurately and efficiently simulate the extraction process over a wide range of timescales, new modelling tools and computing platforms must be explored. Heavy ion beam characterization for radiation effects testing at CERN using Monte Carlo simulations and experimental benchmarking

The CHIMERA (up to December 2022) and HEARTS (as of January 2023) projects aim to facilitate radiation effects testing of electronics components using heavy ion beams before deployment in harsh radiation environments such as space or high energy accelerators. The required (micro-) electronics reliability assurance testing conditions can be met by using 100 MeV/n - 5 GeV/n Pb ion beams extracted from CERN’s Proton Synchrotron (PS) which have a surface Linear Energy Transfer (LET) range of 10-40 MeV cm2/mg, >1 mm penetration depth in silicon and several cm FWHM beam size. Slow extraction with octupoles at CERN proton synchrotron to improve extraction efficiency
/ Taylor, R (CERN ; Imperial Coll., London) ; Fraser, M (CERN) ; Arrutia, P (CERN) ; Johnson, E (CERN) ; Benedetto, E (Unlisted, CH)
The extraction inefficiency of the slow extraction process induces radioactivity in the area surrounding the electrostatic septum. Studies at the CERN Proton Synchrotron (PS) are investigating beam loss reduction techniques to improve the efficiency of the beams provided to the experiments of the East Area. [...]

Feasibility of Slow-Extracted High-Energy Ions From the CERN Proton Synchrotron for CHARM
/ Fraser, Matthew (CERN) ; Arrutia Sota, Pablo Andreas (CERN) ; Biłko, Kacper (CERN) ; Charitonidis, Nikolaos (CERN) ; Danzeca, Salvatore (CERN) ; Delrieux, Marc (CERN) ; Duraffourg, Michel (CERN) ; Emriskova, Natalia (CERN) ; Esposito, Luigi Salvatore (CERN) ; García Alía, Ruben (CERN) et al.
The CHARM High-energy Ions for Micro Electronics Reliability Assurance (CHIMERA) working group at CERN is investigating the feasibility of delivering high energy ion beams to the CHARM facility for the study of radiation effects to electronics components engineered to operate in harsh radiation environments, such as space or high-energy accelerators. The Proton Synchrotron has the potential of delivering the required high energy and high-Z (in this case, Pb) ions for radiation tests over the relevant range of Linear Energy Transfer of ~ 10 - 40 MeV cm²/mg with a > 1 mm penetration depth in silicon, specifically for single event effect tests.
