A Modular Approach for Accelerator Controls Components Deployment for High Power Pulsed Systems / Pavis, Steven (CERN) ; Barlow, Roger (CERN) ; Boucly, Christophe (CERN) ; Carlier, Etienne (CERN) ; Chanavat, Christophe (CERN) ; Lolliot, Christophe (CERN) ; Magnin, Nicolas (CERN) ; Van Trappen, Pieter (CERN) ; Voumard, Nicolas (CERN)
As part of the LHC Injector Upgrade (LIU) project, the controls of the PSB and PS injection kickers at CERN have been upgraded during Long Shutdown 2 (LS2) from heterogeneous home-made electronic solutions to a modular and open architecture. Despite both kickers have significantly different functionalities, topologies and operational requirements, standardized hardware and software control blocks have been used for both systems. [...]

Use of Multi-Network Fieldbus for Integration of Low-Level Intelligent Controller Within Control Architecture of Fast Pulsed System at CERN / Voumard, Nicolas (CERN) ; Boucly, Christophe (CERN) ; Pimentel, Marco (CERN) ; Strobino, Léa (CERN) ; Van Trappen, Pieter (CERN)
Fieldbuses and Industrial Ethernet networks are extensively used for the control of fast-pulsed magnets at CERN. With the ongoing trend to develop increasingly more complex low-level intelligent controllers near to the actuators and sensors, the flexibility to integrate these within different control architectures grows in importance. [...]

Integration of PLC and PXI control systems / Antoine, Alain (CERN) ; Boucly, Christophe (CERN) ; Gharsa, Thierry (CERN)
Engineers are often challenged with the need to integrate several technologies to find optimal solutions when designing new control architectures. Generally, the technical solutions chosen require the combination of various industrial products such as PXI systems for applications requiring fast acquisition, analysis and reaction times, while PLCs are commonly used for their reliability and their ability to withstand industrial environments. [...]

LHC beam dumping system: status and readiness for LHC Run 2 / Magnin, N (CERN) ; Atanasov, M G (CERN) ; Borburgh, J (CERN) ; Boucly, C (CERN) ; Carlier, E (CERN) ; Gabourin, S (CERN) ; Goddard, B (CERN) ; Senaj, V (CERN) ; Uythoven, J (CERN) ; Voumard, N (CERN) et al.
The hardware status of the LHC Beam Dumping System (LBDS) after the many announced system improvements performed during Long Shutdown 1 (LS1) will be presented. The latest estimates of expected availability and reliability of the LBDS after LS1 will be summarized. [...]

Upgrade of the TCDQ Diluters for the LHC Beam Dump System / Atanasov, Miroslav G (CERN) ; Bartmann, Wolfgang (CERN) ; Borburgh, Jan (CERN) ; Boucly, Christophe (CERN) ; Bracco, Chiara (CERN) ; Gentini, Luca (CERN) ; Moles, Benjamin (CERN) ; Weterings, Wim (CERN)
The TCDQ diluters are installed as part of the LHC beam dump system to protect the Q4 quadrupole and other downstream elements during a beam dump that is not synchronised with the abort gap, or in case of erratic firing of the extraction kickers. These diluter elements installed during Run 1 were compatible with beam up to 60 % of the nominal intensity, which was insufficient for the second run of the LHC. [...]

The LHC Beam Dumping System (LBDS) nominally dumps the beam synchronously with the passage of the particle free beam abort gap at the beam dump extraction kickers..

Construction and Initial Tests of the Electrostatic Septa for MedAustron / Borburgh, J (CERN) ; Barlow, R A (CERN) ; Boucly, C (CERN) ; Kramer, T (CERN) ; Prost, A (CERN) ; Dorda, U (EBG MedAustron) ; Stadlbauer, T (EBG MedAustron)
For the MedAustron facility under construction in Wiener Neustadt/Austria, two electrostatic septa are built in collaboration with CERN. These septa will be used for the multi-turn injection of protons and ions, as well as for the slow extraction from the synchrotron. [...]

First Operational Experience with the LHC Beam Dump Trigger Synchronisation Unit / Antoine, A (CERN) ; Boucly, C (CERN) ; Magnin, N (CERN) ; Juteau, P (CERN) ; Voumard, N (CERN)
Two LHC Beam Dumping Systems (LBDS) remove the counter-rotating beams safely from the collider during setting up of the accelerator, at the end of a physics run and in case of emergencies. Dump requests can come from 3 different sources: the machine protection system in emergency cases, the machine timing system for scheduled dumps or the LBDS itself in case of internal failures. [...]

To reduce the beam losses when preparing high intensity proton beam for the CERN Neutrino to Gran Sasso (CNGS) facility, a new Multi-Turn extraction (MTE) scheme has been implemented in the PS, to replace the present Continuous Transfer (CT) to the SPS [...]
