Comparison between laboratory measurements, simulations, and analytical predictions of the transverse wall impedance at low frequencies
/ Roncarolo, F (Manchester U. ; Cockcroft Inst. Accel. Sci. Tech.) ; Caspers, Friedhelm (CERN) ; Kroyer, T (CERN) ; Metral, E (CERN) ; Mounet, N (CERN ; EPFL, Lausanne) ; Salvant, B (CERN ; EPFL, Lausanne) ; Zotter, B (CERN)
The prediction of the transverse wall beam impedance at the first unstable betatron line (8 kHz) of the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is of paramount importance for understanding and controlling the related coupled-bunch instabilities. Until now only novel analytical formulas were available at this frequency. [...]

Observation of Electron Clouds in the ANKA Undulator by Means of the Microwave Transmission Method
/ Sonnad, K G (Karlsruhe, Forschungszentrum) ; Birkel, I (Karlsruhe, Forschungszentrum) ; Casalbuoni, S (Karlsruhe, Forschungszentrum) ; Huttel, E (Karlsruhe, Forschungszentrum) ; Mashkina, E M (Karlsruhe, Forschungszentrum) ; Saez de Jauregui, D (Karlsruhe, Forschungszentrum) ; Smale, N J (Karlsruhe, Forschungszentrum) ; Caspers, Friedhelm (CERN) ; Muller, A S (Karlsruhe U.) ; Sonnad, K G (Karlsruhe U.) et al.
A superconducting undulator is installed in the ANKA electron storage ring. Electron clouds could potentially contribute to the heat load of this device. [...]

Installation and Hardware commissioning of the Multi-Turn extraction at the CERN proton synchrotron
/ Gilardoni, S (CERN) ; Allard, D (CERN) ; Barnes, M (CERN) ; Berrig, O (CERN) ; Beuret, A (CERN) ; Bodart, D (CERN) ; Bourquin, P (CERN) ; Brown, R (CERN) ; Caccioppoli, M (CERN) ; Caspers, Friedhelm (CERN) et al.
The implementation of the new Multi-Turn Extraction (MTE) at the CERN Proton Synchrotron required major hardware changes for the nearly 50-year old accelerator. The installation of new Pulse Forming Networks (PFN) and refurbished kicker magnets for the extraction, new sextupole and octupole magnets, new power converters, together with an in-depth review of the machine aperture leading to the design of new vacuum chambers was required. [...]

Comparison of Enamel and Stainless Steel Electron Cloud Clearing Electrodes Tested in the CERN Proton Synchrotron
/ Caspers, Friedhelm (CERN) ; Kroyer, K (Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems) ; Mahner, C (CERN) ; Wendel, JC (Wendel GmbH)
During the 2007 run with the nominal LHC proton beam, electron cloud has been clearly identified and characterized in the PS using a dedicated setup with shielded button-type pickups. Efficient electron cloud suppression could be achieved with a stainless steel stripline-type electrode biased to negative and positive voltages up to ± 1 kV. [...]

Stabilizing effect of a double-harmonic RF system in the CERN PS
/ Bhat, C M (Fermilab) ; Caspers, Friedhelm (CERN) ; Damerau, H (CERN) ; Hancock, S (CERN) ; Mahner, E (CERN) ; Zimmermann, F (CERN)
Motivated by the discussions on scenarios for LHC upgrades, beam studies on the stability of flat bunches in a double-harmonic RF system have been conducted in the CERN Proton Synchrotron (PS). Injecting nearly nominal LHC beam intensity per cycle, 18 bunches are accelerated on harmonic h = 21 to 26GeV with the 10MHz RF system. [...]

Status of Schottky Diagnostics in the ANKA Storage Ring
/ Caspers, Friedhelm (CERN) ; Sonnad, K G (Karlsruhe, Forschungszentrum) ; Birkel, I (Karlsruhe, Forschungszentrum) ; Casalbuoni, S (Karlsruhe, Forschungszentrum) ; Huttel, E (Karlsruhe, Forschungszentrum) ; Smale, N J (Karlsruhe, Forschungszentrum) ; Hiller, N (Karlsruhe U.) ; Müller, A S (Karlsruhe U.) ; Weigel, R (Stuttgart, Max Planck Inst.)
The status of longitudinal and transverse Schottky observation systems for the synchrotron light source ANKA is presented. ANKA regularly operates in a dedicated low alpha mode with short bunches for the generation of coherent THz radiation. [...]

Interactions of Microwaves and Electron Clouds
/ Caspers, Friedhelm (CERN) ; Zimmermann, F (CERN)
The modification of microwave signals passing through an electron cloud can be used as a diagnostic tool for detecting its presence and as a measure for its effective density. This observation method was demonstrated in pioneering measurements at the CERN SPS in 2003 with protons and at PEP-II in 2006 with positron beams in the particle accelerator field. [...]
