Measurements of Penning-Malmberg trap patch potentials and associated performance degradation / ALPHA Collaboration
Antiprotons created by laser ionization of antihydrogen are observed to rapidly escape the ALPHA trap. Further, positron plasmas heat more quickly after the trap is illuminated by laser light for several hours. [...]

Observation of the effect of gravity on the motion of antimatter / ALPHA Collaboration
Einstein’s general theory of relativity from 19151 remains the most successful description of gravitation. From the 1919 solar eclipse2 to the observation of gravitational waves3, the theory has passed many crucial experimental tests. [...]

Design and performance of a novel low energy multispecies beamline for an antihydrogen experiment / ALPHA Collaboration
The ALPHA Collaboration, based at the CERN Antiproton Decelerator, has recently implemented a novel beamline for low-energy ($\lesssim$ 100 eV) positron and antiproton transport between cylindrical Penning traps that have strong axial magnetic fields. Here, we describe how a combination of semianalytical and numerical calculations were used to optimise the layout and design of this beamline. [...]

Sympathetic cooling of positrons to cryogenic temperatures for antihydrogen production / Baker, C J (Swansea U.) ; Bertsche, W (Manchester U. ; Cockcroft Inst. Accel. Sci. The positron, the antiparticle of the electron, predicted by Dirac in 1931 and discovered by Anderson in 1933, plays a key role in many scientific and everyday endeavours. Notably, the positron is a constituent of antihydrogen, the only long-lived neutral antimatter bound state that can currently be synthesized at low energy, presenting a prominent system for testing fundamental symmetries with high precision. Laser cooling of antihydrogen atoms / ALPHA Collaboration
The photon—the quantum excitation of the electromagnetic field—is massless but carries momentum. A photon can therefore exert a force on an object upon collision1. [...]

Quenching the scintillation in CF$_4$ Cherenkov gas radiator / Blake, T (Warwick U.) ; D׳Ambrosio, C (CERN) ; Easo, S (Rutherford ; CERN) ; Eisenhardt, S (Edinburgh U.) ; Fitzpatrick, C (LPHE, Lausanne) ; Forty, R (CERN) ; Frei, C (CERN) ; Gibson, V (Cambridge U.) ; Gys, T (CERN) ; Harnew, N (Oxford U.) et al.
CF 4 is used as a Cherenkov gas radiator in one of the Ring Imaging Cherenkov detectors at the LHCb experiment at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. CF 4 is well known to have a high scintillation photon yield in the near and far VUV, UV and in the visible wavelength range. [...]

Model-independent confirmation of the $Z(4430)^-$ state / LHCb collaboration
The decay $B^0\to \psi(2S) K^+\pi^-$ is analyzed using $\rm 3~fb^{-1}$ of $pp$ collision data collected with the LHCb detector. A model-independent description of the $\psi(2S) \pi$ mass spectrum is obtained, using as input the $K\pi$ mass spectrum and angular distribution derived directly from data, without requiring a theoretical description of resonance shapes or their interference. Measurement of $CP$ violation and constraints on the CKM angle $\gamma$ in $B^{\pm}\rightarrow D K^{\pm}$ with $D \rightarrow K_S^0 \pi^+ \pi^-$ decays / LHCb collaboration
A model-dependent amplitude analysis of $B^{\pm} \rightarrow D K^{\pm}$ with $D \rightarrow K_S^0 \pi^+ \pi^-$ decays is performed using proton-proton collision data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $1$ fb$^{-1}$, recorded by LHCb at a centre-of-mass energy of $7$ TeV in $2011$. Values of the $CP$ violation observables $x_{\pm}$ and $y_{\pm}$, which are sensitive to the CKM angle $\gamma$, are measured to be \begin{align*} x_- &= +0.027 \pm 0.044 ^{+0.010}_{-0.008} \pm 0.001, \\ y_- &= +0.013 \pm 0.048 ^{+0.009}_{-0.007} \pm 0.003, \\ x_+ &= -0.084 \pm 0.045 \pm 0.009 \pm 0.005, \\ y_+ &= -0.032 \pm 0.048 ^{+0.010}_{-0.009} \pm 0.008, \end{align*} where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second systematic and the third arises from the uncertainty of the $D \rightarrow K_S^0 \pi^+ \pi^-$ amplitude model. Effective lifetime measurements in the $B_{s}^{0} \rightarrow K^{+}K^{-}$, $B^{0} \rightarrow K^{+}\pi^{-}$ and $B_{s}^{0} \rightarrow \pi^{+}K^{-}$ decays / LHCb collaboration
Measurements of the effective lifetimes in the $B_{s}^{0} \rightarrow K^{+}K^{-}$, $B^{0} \rightarrow K^{+}\pi^{-}$ and $B_{s}^{0} \rightarrow \pi^{+}K^{-}$ decays are presented using $1.0~\mathrm{fb^{-1}}$ of $pp$ collision data collected at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV by the LHCb experiment. The analysis uses a data-driven approach to correct for the decay time acceptance. [...]
