Curved-Canted-Cosine-Theta (CCCT) Dipole Prototype Development at CERN / Haziot, Ariel (CERN) ; Kirby, Glyn (CERN) ; Dallocchio, Alessandro (CERN) ; Devred, Arnaud (CERN) ; Foussat, Arnaud (CERN) ; Gentini, Luca (CERN) ; Mangiarotti, Franco J (CERN) ; Pentella, Mariano (CERN) ; Petrone, Carlo (CERN) ; Pincot, Francois-Olivier (CERN) et al.
Due to its flexibility in generating advanced field harmonic corrections and potential for low cost compared to traditional designs, the Canted Cosine Theta (CCT) configuration is particularly interesting for compact particle accelerators and gantries for medical applications. This article presents the design of a curved demonstrator named Fusillo, a Canted Cosine Theta Nb-Ti dipole magnet that is being developed at CERN, featuring a large aperture of 236 mm, a small bending radius of 1 m, a bending angle of 90$^{\circ }$, and multi-harmonic field correction, with a 3.61 T conductor peak field. Modelling V-I Measurements of Nb$_3$Sn Accelerator Magnets With Conductor Degradation / Keijzer, Ruben (CERN ; Twente U., Enschede) ; Succi, Giovanni (CERN) ; Willering, Gerard (CERN) ; Bordini, Bernardo (CERN) ; Bottura, Luca (CERN) ; Mangiarotti, Franco J (CERN) ; Dhallé, Marc (Twente U., Enschede) ; Kate, Herman H J Ten (Twente U., Enschede)
In the framework of the High-Luminosity Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC) project, 11 T dipole and MQXF quadrupole magnets employing Nb$_3$Sn technology have been tested in short and long test configurations. Nb$_3$Sn magnets are more sensitive than Nb-Ti magnets to a potential degradation of their conductors during production, testing, and cycling operation. At CERN, new diagnostic tools and measurement procedures have been developed to investigate, in detail, the performance of Nb$_3$Sn accelerator type magnets. [...]

Superconductors for fusion: a roadmap / Mitchell, Neil (Euratom, St. Paul Lez Durance) ; Zheng, Jinxing (Hefei, Inst. Plasma Phys.) ; Vorpahl, Christian (EFDA-CSU, Garching) ; Corato, Valentina (ENEA, Frascati) ; Sanabria, Charlie (Unlisted, US) ; Segal, Michael (Unlisted, US) ; Sorbom, Brandon (Unlisted, US) ; Slade, Robert (Unlisted, GB) ; Brittles, Greg (Unlisted, GB) ; Bateman, Rod (Unlisted, GB) et al.
With the first tokamak designed for full nuclear operation now well into final assembly (ITER), and a major new research tokamak starting commissioning (JT60SA), nuclear fusion is becoming a mainstream potential energy source for the future. A critical part of the viability of magnetic confinement for fusion is superconductor technology. [...]

Powering Performance and Endurance Beyond Design Limits of HL-LHC Low-Beta Quadrupole Model Magnets / Mangiarotti, Franco J (CERN) ; Ferradas Troitino, Salvador (CERN) ; Duda, Michal (Cracow, INP) ; Bajko, Marta (CERN) ; Bottura, Luca (CERN) ; Desbiolles, Vincent (CERN) ; Elekes, Gyopar (Babes-Bolyai U.) ; Ferradas Troitino, Jose (METROLAB, Geneva ; CERN) ; Feuvrier, Jerome (CERN) ; Ferracin, Paolo (LBNL, Berkeley) et al.
For the High Luminosity Upgrade project (HL-LHC) of the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC), lower β* quadrupole magnets based on advanced Nb 3 Sn conductors will be installed on each side of the ATLAS and CMS interaction points. To quantify the endurance and technological limits of these magnets, beyond their maximum operational conditions, two short length model magnets have been extensively tested at the CERN SM18 test facility. Assessment of MQXF Quench Heater Insulation Strength and Test of Modified Design / Baldini, Maria (Fermilab) ; Ambrosio, Giorgio (Fermilab) ; Anerella, Michael D (Brookhaven) ; Bermudez, Susana I (CERN) ; Bossert, Rodger C (Fermilab) ; Ferracin, Paolo (LBL, Berkeley) ; Krave, Steven (Fermilab) ; Mangiarotti, Franco J (CERN) ; Marinozzi, Vittorio (Fermilab) ; Nobrega, Alfred (Fermilab) et al.
The HL-LHC interaction region magnet triplets (Q1,Q2, and Q3) will be composed of superconducting Nb3Sn quadru-poles. The MQXF quadrupole protection system is based on CLIQ (Coupling-Loss Induced Quench system) and outer layer quench heaters. This paper reports a summary of quench heaters to coil high voltage tests performed on MQXF short and long coils in air after fabrication, and in air and He gas after magnet training. Quench propagation in Nb$_{3}$Sn cos-theta 11 T dipole model magnets in high stress areas / Mangiarotti, Franco J (CERN) ; Willering, Gerard P (CERN) ; Bajas, Hugues (CERN) ; Bajko, Marta ; Bordini, Bernardo (CERN) ; Bottura, Luca (CERN) ; Izquierdo Bermudez, Susana (CERN) ; Löffler, Christian H (CERN) ; Gomez, Jose V Lorenzo ; Savary, Frederic (CERN) et al.
A large number of training quenches at various currents, temperatures, and ramp rates, have been performed on six 11 T dipole model magnets. Quenches in the midplane of these magnets were of special interest, since the quench current in the last three models measured in 2016 was limited to between 84% and 92% of the magnets short sample limit.
