| Abstract | Using the recent CERN and Fermilab measurements for J/ psi production by pi /sup +or-/, K/sup +or-/, p and p beams the authors show, within the framework of QCD, that only a combined version of light quark qq to cc fusion and gluon gg to cc fusion mechanisms can account for the various total cross section beam ratios as well as for the observed x /sub F/-distributions.
