Abstract | The angular distribution of charged particles emitted between 47 degrees and 90 degrees in the centre of mass has been measured at the CERN Intersecting Storage Rings with a bodoscope of scintillation counters and for centre-of-mass energies E/sub cm/=30.2, 44.7 and 52.7 GeV. Data are compatible with distributions of the type 1/ sigma /sub inel/*d sigma /d Omega ( theta /sub cm/)=A(E/sub cm/) sin/sup -2/ theta /sub cm/. The values of A(E/sub cm/) are about a factor of two greater than the predictions of scaling from data at E/sub cm/=6.0 Ge V. The shape of the angular distribution provides evidence for a flat distribution in the 'rapidity' variable y=artanh (p/sub L//E). (10 refs). |
