| Abstract | Hadronic yields and their ratios observed in CERN SPS heavy ion experiments with S and Pb beams at 158 GeV/c per nucleon are reviewed. The role of strange particle production in the search for a new phase of matter, in both experiment and theory, is discussed. (32 refs). |
