Abstract At the IBR-2 pulsed reactor (FLNP, JINR) a specialised instrument - neutron Fourier diffractometer FSD - intended for internal stress measurements in bulk materials is under construction. Internal stress studies by neutron diffraction has been successfully developed last years in leading neutron centres, including Dubna and Gatchina, due to several important advantages of this method in comparison with other techniques. In current work the operation principles and construction of the diffractometer, basic parameters and outcomes of test experiments are presented.
