Abstract | Super-conductivity is brought to the general public by emphasizing one of the most amazing applications: levitating trains like the maglev in Shanghai. The main author had the privilege to work on high temperature superconductivity at the University of Zurich at the time of the big breakthrough in 1986 with the discovery of high-temperature superconductors , for which the two scientists, K. Alex Müller and J. Georg Bednorz, were awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics a year later in 1987. |
