Miniature accelerator ELISA at the Science Gateway

Date: 05-04-2024

The Experimental Linac for Surface Analysis (ELISA), one of the first compact proton accelerators, built for exhibition in CERN Science Gateway. ELISA is a working proton accelerator, capable of performing a real Proton Induced X-ray Emission (PIXE) analysis, used in real-life to authenticate artworks, for example. At CERN Science Gateway, visitors will have access to hands-on experiments – like the PIXE analysis using the accelerator ELISA – to further explore the inner workings and applications of particle accelerators.
