Abstract We report the test results of the second short model magnet of the beam separation dipole for the High Luminosity Large Hadron Collider. The test shows that the second model has a good training performance and is capable of operating at the ultimate current that corresponds to 108% of the nominal one. Magnetic field measurements reveal that $b_3$is around 18 units, which is 15 units higher than the calculations. This can be explained in part by geometrical coil deformation caused during the construction process.
