It was shortened to "Guptios" (and came to mean, mixed with Semitic), then transmitted into Arabic as "Qopt", and finally as "Coptos". The Coptic script, which used the Greek alphabet, even though some of the Greek letters represent sounds that never existed in the Kemitic language...
