Shadows in art

Follow these creative photography ideas for getting unusual photos.

Photography has many tips and tricks of the trade used both by amateurs and famous photographers - the many uses of light, perspective, darkness, exposure, and many other bits are what makes beautiful pictures. All of that wouldn't come to one unified look without shadows though as they are what gives the image depth or in some cases, changes the view entirely. Also, they're free, they're everywhere, and there's no limit to what you can do with them if you have the know-how.

I've created this 'Creating with Shadows' video as a home learning project. I had great fun making this and experimenting with different media.

So many images are Photoshopped these days that it's hard to know what to believe anymore. But you don't need to be an editing wizard to mess with people's perceptions of reality. All you need is a camera, some willing friends and an eye for obscure camera angles. And as you can see from this list compiled by Bored Panda, when those three simple ingredients are combined correctly, the end result can be just as mind-boggling as anything done in Photoshop.
