A new dazzling display of royal jewels has just gone on show at Kensington Palace

Queen Victoria's emerald and diamond parure, circa 1845. The diadem was designed by Prince Albert for Queen Victoria and created to complement a necklace set with nine oval emerald clusters, each within a border of cushion-shaped diamonds. The accompanying earrings and an impressive 20ct emerald and diamond brooch, both of which were also gifts from Albert.

1st May and today's tiara is Queen Victoria's Emerald tiara which was designed for her by Prince Albert. The beautiful piece has only been photographed or painted a handful of times. Today it belongs to the Duke of Fife, and was last worn by his mother at the State Opening of Parliament in the early 1960s. Prince Phillip's grandmother, Princess Victoria of Hesse was also photographed wearing it. It has some beautiful accompanying jewels. Designed as a tapered openwork band of scroll motifs set with cushion-shaped diamonds and decorated with step-cut emeralds in gold collets, surmounted by a graduated row of nineteen inverted pear-shaped emerald drops. Designed by Prince Albert for Queen Victoria and made by Joseph Kitching for a price of £1,150.
