Add 1 cup of conditioner to a mixing bowl. 2. Add 1 cup of cornstarch to the mixing bowl and mix. 3. Add a few drops of food coloring if you want colored dough. 4. Add another cup of cornstarch and mix. 5. Fold and blend with your hands to get the right consistency. 6. If the dough feels too stiff, add a little bit more conditioner, or if it feels too soft, add a little bit more cornstarch. 7. Store in a resealable container/ bag. ❗️This dough is not suitable for mouthing toddlers! 307K views · 23K reactions | Taste-Safe Chia Seed Putty Recipe As a pediatric occupational therapist and mom, I’ve been on the lookout for a taste-safe putty that’s easy to clean and provides great sensory play. This recipe has become my favorite because it’s low-mess, less sticky than soaked chia seeds or oobleck, and easy to clean off hands. The texture is amazing for heavy work, strengthening the intrinsic muscles of the hand, and offering resistance activities that support sensory regulation. I highly recommend this one! Comment for a list of ingredients if you’d like to make sure you have everything ready to buy! Ingredients: 2 tablespoons chia seeds, 1 cup water, ½ to 1 cup cornstarch, Food coloring (optional) Instructions: 1. Soak the chia seeds: Mix 2 tablespoons of chia seeds with 1 cup of water. Stir well and let it sit for at least 2-3 hours, or overnight. The chia seeds will form a gel-like consistency. 2. Add color (optional): Mix in a few drops of food coloring until evenly distributed. 3. Combine with cornstarch: Add ½ cup of cornstarch to the chia seed mixture, stirring well. Gradually add more cornstarch, up to 1 cup, until you get a stretchy but moldable consistency. 4. Knead until smooth: If the putty feels dry, add a bit of water. If too sticky, add more cornstarch. 5. Reactivating tip: If the putty dries out, add a teaspoon of water and knead to restore the texture. Storage: • Store in an airtight container at room temperature for a few days, or in the fridge for up to 1-2 weeks for extended shelf life. • Check for spoilage: If you notice any changes in smell, texture, or appearance, discard it. This putty is perfect for little ones who need safe, tactile play that’s also beneficial for hand strength and sensory regulation! Follow for more taste safe sensory play ideas I post every Tuesday! #nontoxicmom #organicmothergood #nervoussystemregulation #sensoryplay #occupationaltherapist #sensoryactivity #toddleractivity #tastessafeplay #pediatricoccupationaltherapist #childdevelopment #toddleractivities #developmentalmilestones #newmom #parentingtip #earlydevelopment | Akilina | Pediatric Occupational Therapist
