Wanted to try some low key work. Shoot through umbrella strobe to the right 1/16th, snooted strobe 1/4 power to the left to light the smoke. Originally planned for the soft light to be the main, but the snooted strobe has also made some specular highlights of the candle and the holder. More by luck than judgement, this has given the whole thing some good depth and contrast.

This was taken on the set of a film noir project I worked on - the production design & lighting were amazing!

Low key photography is when you take a photo of a subject, and everything (or almost everything) except the subject in black.
