First Grade WOW, Windows on Wonder

I wanted to make some charts for Author's Purpose that would appeal to my first graders. I went with the P.I.E acronym (Persuade, Inform, Entertain) but took it to the next level by actually using Pie as the text examples. I then added some Other Examples so the students would get additional visual examples of the different purposes. So I've posted this anchor chart on Pinterest, and I've already gotten more than 60 repins! Now that it is on my blog, it will actually lead to a source. This one is useful for a discussion of theme. I used this when student teaching, and it was great! I really like having the examples for students to see. I based this anchor chart on one I found on Pinterest, but this one matches my classroom theme! Once again, this is a 16x20 print, and can be printed on photo paper and laminated!

Authors in our classroom have been very motivated this week. Our writer's workshop was alive as students were busy writing seed stories from their lives. We learned the difference between telling and showing sentences. We are beginning to look at books we read to find sentences that "show" rather than tell.
