Supermarkets

Image
There are maybe 4 main supermarket chains here in New Zealand: Pak n Save New World Woolworths  Fresh Choice. The photo was taken at the first named at Silverdale in Auckland in part of their produce section, the rest of the supermarket is huge. Once upon a time when I was growing up in the 1970s and 80s this town was like a blip in the middle of the country with only a few factory shops and a Vet office. These days it is a bustling connection in between Auckland and the Hibiscus Coast. I LOVE Pak n Save but on the West Coast we don't have one, the prices are cheaper than anywhere else. Let's face it, probably all of us are trying to save money on groceries. Last night we booked our flights and accommodation for our trip to Auckland in June as I am having a family reunion which my sister is organizing. I'm looking forward to getting back here. Car

So far this year we have had the most rotten Summer. Last year we had a drought and most days we got up to 32 degrees celsius. This year we and most of the country have had rain and overcast skies.  On one warm sunny day B and I took my daughter's dog Bug down to the local Grey River for a paddle in the water. This photo shows her in the back of the car with her head out the window, as she loves to do. Linking up with  Weekend Reflections ,  The Weekend Roundup  and   Mosaic Monday .

Green

We attended the last monthly meet up of the Greymouth Cars n Coffee a couple of weeks ago in town. This is an event where owners of classic cars bring theirs in for the public to come and look at - it's usually very popular. So far this is my 2nd favourite classic car. Babies

Image
About 6 months ago I got 3 new chickens off a friend that were meant to be all female, since they were young at that point it was hard to tell whether they were definitely girls or boys. One morning we heard 2 of them crowing which meant they were boys so we sent them back. A few days ago my friend dropped off a mummy chicken with her 6 babies for us temporarily, since the little ones are too young to separate so we are going to wait until they are about 6 weeks and then pick 2 girls, she will take the mum and the other babies back. Look at them, they are so cute! Linking up with  Tuesday Treasures ,  Happy Tuesdays  and  Wordless Wednesday .

Blue skies

This was taken a few days after Christmas in town along one of the main streets outside the second hand bookshop, they had a little tree in the window surrounded by different books. Linking up with  Weekend Reflections ,  The Weekend Roundup ,  Shadow Shot Sunday  and   Mosaic Monday .

Reduce, reuse, recycle

Image
Another one from Fiji 5 years ago when we were on holiday there. This photo is from a town called Sigatoka and the sign on the right is ironic really considering overall it isn't a very clean place. The resorts are lovely but the water is polluted, people leave rubbish literally everywhere all over the streets and beaches, animals are left to roam wild where they do their business where they want. Shame that a destination holiday place couldn't be more looked after. At least in New Zealand here people are a bit more tidier, could be better though. Old house

Image
Over the weekend B and I visited a friend who lives in this large turn of the 20th century house in town, he doesn't own it however so I took these photos only so as to not intrude into the owner's personal suff. Unfortunately it needs ALOT of work such as the foundations piles which are sinking, the metal work is rusting and will probably need more money than most people have to fix the rest of the problems. But the interior is beautiful. Above and below are 2 of the stained glass doors within the house which surprisingly are still looking immaculate with no cracks.  The wallpaper on the right is throughout the house and is original. Apparently the house was first built for a local business man who was quite wealthy who also owned one of the local pubs in town. It's quite sad to see it looking in this state.
