This evening, we will focus on two experience stories from testing in the field. How to test broadband internet on a plane and how to use test automation when testing air traffic controllers workstations. We have three amazing speakers who will share how they managed their testing activities and how they dealt with working on hands-on systems with important hardware components while not being able to meet face-to-face due to Corona measures.

#Abstract
From the initial idea of getting broadband services on planes we discuss the design concept, challenges experienced throughout the project through to the outcome, and future expectations. The approach taken in test planning allowed for geographically dispersed teams and safety during the covid pandemic.

As it's a complex system we needed to consider the science behind getting broadband on the plane, including the effects of RF doppler and many other conditions. Despite all the challenges this was very successful both for us and the client, therefore we would like to share the story on this very interesting project.

David Maynard is a group lead at Cambridge Consultants, which is part of Capgemini invent, located in the UK. He has more than 15 years in both embedded and software testing. Throughout his career, he has worked on pharmaceutical databases and a wide variety of wireless technologies including Zigbee, WiFi and DECT. Gavin Stevens is a Principal Test Engineer at Cambridge Consultants, which is part of Capgemini Invent in the UK.
He has more than 24 years’ experience in software testing. Throughout his career he has worked across both fixed and mobile network domains, testing a wide variety of protocols from SIP, H323, Bluetooth, 2G, 3G to LTE. He is an advocate of automation testing and believes it is a vital part of any testing process. His key values are “honesty, trust and team work”.

Integration testing of flight plans

#Abstract
Currently, LVNL (Luchtverkeersleiding Nederland) is developing their new Air Traffic Management (ATM) system iCAS. iCAS , it will replace the current system, Amsterdam Advanced ATC, to be able to comply with the latest European regulations.

One of the many functions of iCAS will be to process and distribute information regarding inbound, outbound, and crossing flights, which is contained in so called flight plans. I will present how we test these flight plan messages so that they will be correctly sent to other ATM systems around the globe.
