米Dropboxは4月3日、オープンソースのPython実装「Pyston」を発表した。LLVMのJITエンジンを利用するPython実装で、より高いパフォーマンスを目指すという。 PystonはLLVMおよびLLVMのJIT（Just In Time）実行エンジンを使用して構築されたPython実装。Python 2.7互換の実装で、現時点ではx86_64プラットフォームでのみ動作し、動作テストはUbuntuで行っているという。 パースされたPythonコードをLLVMの中間表現（IR）に変換し、LLVMのオプティマイザを経てLLVM JITエンジンで実行可能なコードを生成する。LLVMには最適化パスなど最適化のための仕組みが多数含まれており、高速なコードを精製できるとしている。現時点での性能については「CPythonよりも上だがPyPyよりは劣る」と報告されている。 Dropboxでは
llvm-pyはドキュメントがめちゃくちゃよく書けているのはいいんだけど、バインディングとしての完成度は…普通かな。 0 から 9 までの値をそれぞれ 2 倍したものを表示するサンプルを書いてみた。実は with を初めて使った。 basic block (BB) のセマンティクスとか、定義済み外部関数で、かつ可変引数である printf の呼び出し方とかが参考になるといいなと思う。 文字列定数の扱いはひょっとしたら間違ってるかもしれない。ドキュメントいろいろ漁ったけどよくわからなかったので。 出力結果は次のようになるはず。printf 呼び出しがインライン化されたりしているのは最適化パス (PASS_FUNCTION_INLINING) のおかげ。いろいろパスを足したり除いたりして、どう最適化が効いてくるのかを見るのもおもしろい。 BEFORE: define void @loop()
