Going through belongings in preparation for moving next month, trying to slim down since I will be taking three years worth of apartment filler to...basically one room, and I'd like to avoid renting storage. Here is a brief list of books that I will be selling or giving away, but I thought I'd let y'all have first pick. All books are in good shape unless otherwise stated, let me know if you want specifics about size/weight, subject matter etc.

All books are FREE, I just ask that you pay postage if you can (from USA 19606) and if you can't that's cool too, we'll work something out. Feel free to pass this post on to anyone else who might want free stuff, it'll be good for about a month then I'll just get rid of the stuff locally.

Graphic Novels/Manga )

Fiction )

Non-Fiction )

Textbooks )

I also have a ridiculous magazine collection that will probably be thrown away unless anyone wants them, mostly Entertainment Weekly, Readymade, Bitch, Bust and a few Anime/Manga and Harry Potter film mags.

*cough* er, I am going to take a nanosecond to say, hey! If you are a fakenews fan and you are vaguely aware that I make art and maybe you kinda like it, you can vote for my submission in the dA #moments-of-zen contest, related to the recent Rally.

My submission: Two-Headed Boy (Jon&Stephen) )

Personally, I voted for the animation :D

Three years ago, almost to the exact day, I took three trains and taxi to get to the Union Square Barnes & Noble in NYC from nursing school in Bryn Mawr, PA. At that event I was meeting my hero for the first time, had never been to anything remotely like this, and was a nervous exhausted wreck after sitting in anticipation for close to six hours. Long story short, I burst into tears and got a leather jacket clad hug from Neil Gaimain.

Last night was even better :D

EXTREMELY IMAGE HEAVY )

Too many pictures, too much to tell, and sadly work to go to -_- Part 2 later!

Well that was surreal. I'm glad I partially slept overnight so that I could wake up and watch Stephen at the hearing. I won't apologize for my first gut reaction of outrage when his testimony turned out to be in character, even though, of course, I should have seen it coming since the submitted written testimony was so short and bland. Why else would he be there? I probably would still be outraged at him if he had not answered Rep. Chu's final question with sincerity. From HuffPo's live blog:

11:47 AM ET A Moment of Seriousness

Chu asks Colbert why, of all the issues he could talk about, or bring attention to, he decided to get involved in this issue. Colbert, for the first time today, drops out of character.

"I like talking about people who don't have any power...I feel the need to speak for those who can't speak for themselves....We ask them to come and work, and then we ask them to leave again. They suffer, and have no rights."

He also quotes Matthew 25:40: "The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.'"

To be fair, although I was angry at Stephen at first, these Representatives are hardly less ridiculous and wasting our time and money most of the time. I appreciated Stephen's final response because it highlighted that he was there to mock the Representatives themselves, and not the issue they were there to discuss. I think without it the performance would have failed - and of course, for many people, it still will.

WHOO! [livejournal.com profile] yuletart is here again!

I am so excited :D I have participated the last two years and it is a wonderful wonderful fest. It's an artist's version of [livejournal.com profile] yuletide, and ALL artforms are welcome - there have been sculptures, felt and knitted dolls, in addition to paintings, animations, traditional & digital artforms etc. I just love secret exchanges where the whole point is to surprise a stranger with something that involves their interests :)

YOU KNOW YOU WANT TO JOIN!! Right now new fandom nominations are going on (no surprise, Inception was instantly nominated and supported x 1 million), so you can head over and add your support to fandoms you want to see represented, or you can just chill and wait for September 20th when sign-ups begin :D

Okay, I promise, no more posting and cluttering up your flist after this. I just wanted to post something happy and I cannot stop giggling when I see this picture. There are more at No Fact Zone, but this one is my favorite, because it's so sassy.

NO TIME! NO TIME! NO TIME TO TALK, I'M LATE I'M LATE I'M LATE!

Rrargh. I am frustrated with my inability to concentrate on more than one thing at once, but I suppose I should be happy I am concentrating on anything at all. I am painstakingly making my way through what used to be a simple length book for me, it's enjoyable, but it irks me how slowly I read. I can't even form the words properly to tell y'all "oh hey, I saw Jon Stewart in Atlantic City, then saw a taping" BUT....I have been drawing every damn thing that pops into my head lately x_X which is something that hasn't happened to me for a very very long time.

So, as an....offering? If it matters to you, here's one of the things I've been ignoring the rest of the world to concentrate on here and there:

WIP - Not Hardly Alice )

This preview image is much smaller than the HUMONGOUS actual image, which itself is only a fourth of the full image that I posted the sketch of earlier. It may not look like much, but I can't remember the last time I spent this much time on a drawing. I may not have ever, including when I was taking art classes (albeit in high school). Anyway. It's amusing how nitpicky I've gotten about planning and using resource images etc. etc. - all the little steps that kill me when it comes to writing. Who knows, maybe this muse will translate into writing at some point. For the moment, I'm not greedy, just happy it's here :)

How are you?

I am meant to be working on a write up of the magnificent weekend o' Jon Stewart I experienced recently, but instead a funny comment from my girlfriend inspired me to draw this:

I prefer Dashing )

This came about when she told me her mother "thinks you seem 'young'. Her way of saying small and shy. :3" (The shy comes from the fact that I am very deferential when trying to make a good impression. IT'S CALLED GOOD SOUTHERN MANNERS PEOPLE. Or something. Hence, the "title" of the pic)

Well. Small I cannot deny :) but not in spirit.

Hee, I don't know how I noticed this last year... I think someone on FNFF or RBR must have popped up to tell us to vote for Jon Stewart (I think he made it to the Final Four at least).

This year, I filled out an office pool bracket sheet.

My picks are mostly based on a) I haven't regularly watched many tv shows for years, b) vague knowledge of other shows from people I know, c) JON STEWART TAKES ALL!!!

It's so geeky. I love it. Anyone else playing? Office Pool closes Saturday, March 6, 1-2PM EST. GET YOUR PICKS IN!

From last year:

SO. Due to work and *gasp* socialization with people outside my family (okay them too), I have been not around much, but after work tonight I have two days off with no obligations so it's time to play better catch up with the internets than can be done on my iPhone.

Also, to repay my debt ^_^ [personal profile] ptahrrific posted this meme and wrote a gorgeously meta Neil Gaiman meets Dream drabble for me. I am notoriously slow, and actively working on a project (for my [livejournal.com profile] help_haiti bidder), so I cut the request down from 10 to 5 -_-; OTH it's in DW and LJ, so please only respond in one if you do ;-)

The meme

The first five people to comment in this post get to request a sketch or drabble of any pairing/character of their choosing. In return, they have to post this in their journal, regardless of their ability level. Obvious fandoms include Fakenews/Realnews, Harry Potter, DC Comics, Marvel Comics, Indiana Jones, Back to the Future, BSG, Eureka... I'm happy to do any TV/Movie/RPF fandoms when it comes to artwork, and horribly specific prompts are helpful ^_^

1. [personal profile] themistoklis Jon & Stephen, Chess in the Park (art)
2. [personal profile] sirdrakesheir Rahm/Stephen, The Dip (art)
3. [personal profile] jennova Stephen, Deadpool, STOP THIEF (art)
4. [personal profile] erinptah
5.

Hellow Dreamwidth! My apologies for my complete inability to divert my attention to multiple journals, I'M WORKING ON IT! If you have any recs for communities on DW that you think I might like, or people I might know that I'm not already following, please let me know! Part of the plan is to put all my RSS feeds on this reading list so that I will pay more attention to it. Okay, enough excuses. In my plea for forgiveness, here is the taping report for The Colbert Report I attended on 12/15/09 (second to last show on the old set!!!)
