A Bartlett graduate reviews an accepted architecture school portfolio that won one of our students a place at the AA. The portfolio was also accepted to the Bartlett, Cornell, SCI-Arc, Edinburgh and the Glasgow School of Art.

Looking at the strict mourning etiquettes of the Victorian era, it was impossible to separate oneself from grief. With this in mind the collection heightens this to the extreme - in doing so, the wearer becomes the physical embodiment of loss. Adopting some of the classic Victorian mourning fabrics and colour palette, the collection draws inspiration from not only the female mourning dresses, but also the mourning suits of the men, creating a juxtaposition between the two.

This portfolio explores my own working class background, and English to American heritage. The photograph of my great Grandfather as a postman is my main inspiration which led me to this collection this collection. Tencel, biodegradable buttons and organic cottons play a big role in this collection.
