Search for the second forbidden beta decay of 8B to the ground state of 8Be
Abstract: A significant decay branch of 8B to the ground state of 8Be would extend the solar neutrino spectrum to higher energies than anticipated in the standard solar models. These high-energy neutrinos would affect current neutrino oscillation results and also would be a background to measurements of the hep process. We have measured the delayed alpha particles from the decay of 8B, with the goal of ob… ▽ More

Lead Perchlorate as a Neutrino Detection Medium
Abstract: Lead can be an ideal medium for the detection and study of neutrinos. Such a detector may be realized through the use of a lead perchlorate solution as a Cerenkov radiator. The basic physical properties of lead perchlorate solution are given and preparation of the solution for use in a Cerenkov detector is described. Results from investigations of light transmission in lead perchlorate solutions… ▽ More
