The possible link between entanglement and thermalization, and the dynamics of hadronization are addressed by studying the real-time response of the massive Schwinger model coupled to external sources. This setup mimics the production and fragmentation of quark jets, as the Schwinger model and QCD share the properties of confinement and chiral symmetry breaking. By using quantum simulations on classical hardware, we study the entanglement between the produced jets, and observe the growth of the corresponding entanglement entropy in time. This growth arises from the increased number of contributing eigenstates of the reduced density matrix with sufficiently large and close eigenvalues. We also investigate the physical nature of these eigenstates, and find that at early times they correspond to fermionic Fock states. We then observe the transition from these fermionic Fock states to meson-like bound states as a function of time. In other words, we observe how hadronization develops in real time. At late times, the local observables at mid-rapidity (such as the fermion density and the electric field) approach approximately constant values, suggesting the onset of equilibrium and approach to thermalization.

The chiral magnetic wave (CMW) is a macroscopic quantum phenomenon that arises due to the mixing of the electric and chiral charge oscillations induced by the chiral anomaly. In this study we report the first quantum simulation (on classical hardware) of the real-time dynamics of CMWs in Schwinger model. Our quench protocol is the following: at $t=0$ we suddenly place an electric dipole at the middle of our lattice. Due to chiral anomaly, this dipole excites the CMW that propagates towards the edges of the lattice. In Schwinger model tuned to the conformal critical point (at $θ= π$, $m/g \simeq 0.2$), we find a gapless linear CMW that propagates with the speed of light. For massless Schwinger model ($θ=0, m=0$), we find a gapped linear CMW, in accord with previous analytical analyses. For massive Schwinger model (that is dual to strongly interacting bosonic theory), we enter the new regime of nonlinear CMWs, where we find a surprise. Specifically, for $m/g > 1$, the frequency of electric charge oscillations becomes much smaller than the frequency of the oscillations of the chiral charge. For $m/g =4$, we find a solution corresponding to a nearly static electric dipole with fast oscillations of the chiral charge confined within. We call this solution a "thumper" and study its properties in detail.

We report the triton ($t$) production in mid-rapidity ($|y| <$ 0.5) Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_\mathrm{NN}}$= 7.7--200 GeV measured by the STAR experiment from the first phase of the beam energy scan at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC). The nuclear compound yield ratio ($\mathrm{N}_t \times \mathrm{N}_p/\mathrm{N}_d^2$), which is predicted to be sensitive to the fluctuation of local neutron density, is observed to decrease monotonically with increasing charged-particle multiplicity ($dN_{ch}/dη$) and follows a scaling behavior. The $dN_{ch}/dη$ dependence of the yield ratio is compared to calculations from coalescence and thermal models. Enhancements in the yield ratios relative to the coalescence baseline are observed in the 0\%-10\% most central collisions at 19.6 and 27 GeV, with a significance of 2.3$σ$ and 3.4$σ$, respectively, giving a combined significance of 4.1$σ$. The enhancements are not observed in peripheral collisions or model calculations without critical fluctuation, and decreases with a smaller $p_{T}$ acceptance. The physics implications of these results on the QCD phase structure and the production mechanism of light nuclei in heavy-ion collisions are discussed.

We observe a clear suppression of the correlated yields of back-to-back $π^0$ pairs in $p+$Al and $p+$Au collisions compared to the $p$+$p$ data. The observed suppression of back-to-back pairs as a function of transverse momentum suggests nonlinear gluon dynamics arising at high parton densities. The larger suppression found in $p+$Au relative to $p+$Al collisions exhibits a dependence of the saturation scale, $Q_s^2$, on the mass number, $A$. A linear scaling of the suppression with $A^{1/3}$ is observed with a slope of $-0.09$ $\pm$ $0.01$.

Gauge fields provide the fundamental interactions in the Standard Model of particle physics. Gauge field configurations with nontrivial topological windings are known to play crucial roles in many important phenomena, from matter-anti-matter asymmetry of today's universe to spontaneous chiral symmetry breaking in strong interaction. Their presence is however elusive for direct detection in experiments. Here we show that measurements of the chiral magnetic effect (CME) in heavy ion collisions can be used for accessing the topological fluctuations of the non-Abelian gauge fields in the Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD). To achieve this, we implemented a key ingredient, the stochastic dynamics of gauge field topological fluctuations, into a state-of-the-art framework for simulating the CME in these collisions. This new framework provides the necessary tool to quantify initial topological fluctuations from any definitive CME signal to be extracted from experimental data. It also reveals a universal scaling relation between initial topological fluctuations and particle multiplicity produced in the corresponding collision events.

In this work, we study the relativistic quantum kinetic equations in 2+1 dimensions from Wigner function formalism by carrying out a systematic semi-classical expansion up to $\hbar$ order. The derived equations allow us to explore interesting transport phenomena in 2+1 dimensions. Within this framework, the parity-odd transport current induced by the external electromagnetic field is self-consistently derived. We also examine the dynamical mass generation by implementing four-fermion interaction with mean-field approximation. In this case, a new kind of transport current is found to be induced by the gradient of the mean-field condensate. Finally, we also utilize this framework to study the dynamical mass generation in an external magnetic field for the 2+1 dimensional system under equilibrium.

In this paper, we aim to study the complete self-energy in the fermion propagator within two-flavor NJL model in the case of finite temperature, chemical potential and external magnetic field. Through Fierz transformation we prove that the self-energy is not simply proportional to dynamical mass in the presence of chemical potential, moreover, it contains four kinds of condensates after introducing external magnetic field. We find out the appropriate and complete form of self-energy and establish new gap equations. We take two of the four condensates (scalar and pseudovector condensates) to make an approximation and simplify the gap equations. The numerical results show that not only the dynamical mass get quantitative modification, but also the properties of Nambu phase and Wigner phase are significantly different with classic results. Instead of classic Wigner phase with zero dynamic mass in the massless NJL model, we propose a new phase - quasi-Wigner phase in this article, it has small but nonzero dynamic mass, with increasing chemical potential, eventually Nambu phase will turn into quasi-Wigner phase with first-order phase transition, therefore the chiral symmetry can never be fully restored but be partially restored. Furthermore, we prove that pseudovector condensate in self-energy can generate energy splitting in dispersion relation, it will cause minor differences of particle numbers with the split energy levels.

Recently there has been significant interest in understanding the macroscopic quantum transport in a many-body system of chiral fermions. A natural framework for describing such a system which is generally out of equilibrium, is the transport equation for its phase space distribution function. In this paper, we obtain a complete solution of the covariant chiral transport for massless fermions, by starting from the general Wigner function formalism and carrying out a complete and consistent semiclassical expansion up to $\hat{\mathbf{O}}(\hbar)$ order. In particular, we clarify certain subtle and confusing issues surrounding the Lorentz non-invariance and frame dependence associated with the 3D chiral kinetic theory. We prove that such frame dependence is uniquely and completely fixed by an unambiguous definition of the $\hat{\mathbf{O}}(\hbar)$ correction to the distribution function in each reference frame.

Recently there has been significant interest in the macroscopic manifestation of chiral anomaly in many-body systems of chiral fermions. A notable example is the Chiral Magnetic Effect (CME). Enthusiastic efforts have been made to search for the CME in the quark-gluon plasma created in heavy ion collisions. A crucial challenge is that the extremely strong magnetic field in such collisions may last only for a brief moment and the CME current may have to occur at so early a stage that the quark-gluon matter is still far from thermal equilibrium. This thus requires modeling of the CME in an out-of-equilibrium setting. With the recently developed theoretical tool of chiral kinetic theory, we make a first phenomenological study of the CME-induced charge separation during the pre-thermal stage in heavy ion collisions. The effect is found to be very sensitive to the time dependence of the magnetic field and also influenced by the initial quark momentum spectrum as well as the relaxation time of the system evolution toward thermal equilibrium. Within the present approach, such pre-thermal charge separation is found to be modest.

The bulk dynamics of the fireball is well described by relativistic hydrodynamic expansion and the fluctuations on top of such expanding background can be studied within the linearized hydrodynamic framework. We study the conserved charge fluctuations, as quantified by the corresponding susceptibilities, in strongly interacting matter as motived by the quark-gluon plasma. Using the gauge-gravity correspondence approach, we study the patterns of conserved charge fluctuations in two types of holographic models for QCD, the D4/D8 and the D3/D7 models. We compute and compare the quark number susceptibilities in both models and find an interesting common feature of the two: at very strong coupling higher order susceptibilities are suppressed and the conserved charge fluctuations become purely Guassian. In light of the state-of-the-art lattice QCD results we also discuss what we can learn from these susceptibilities about the underlying degrees of freedom in the $1\sim 2T_c$ quark-gluon plasma and examine the viability of different ideas such as holography, quasi-particles, as well as bound states. From analyzes of second order susceptibilities we conclude that the bound states exist and are important in the $1\sim 2T_c$ region. We further construct and make predictions for several ratios of fourth-order susceptibilities that can sensitively reveal such bound states.
