We study the renormalizable group equations (RGEs) of the extended strong and weak gauge couplings in an ${\rm SU}(8)$ theory, where three-generational SM fermions are non-trivially embedded. This framework was previously found to generate the observed SM quark/lepton mass hierarchies and the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa mixing pattern through its maximally breaking pattern. The field theoretical two-loop RGEs can not achieve the gauge coupling unification with the minimal setup, unless additional adjoint Higgs fields as well as the gravity-induced $d=5$ term to the ${\rm SU}(8)$ field strength term are included.

We investigate the effects of the asymmetric pulse shapes on electron-positron pair production in three distinct fields: chirp-free, small frequency chirp, and large frequency chirp fields via the real-time Dirac-Heisenberg-Wigner formalism. Our findings reveal the disappearance of interference effects with shorter falling pulse length, and the peak is concentrated on the left side of the momentum spectrum. As the falling pulse length extends, an incomplete multi-ring structure appears in the momentum spectrum. The number density of particles are very sensitive to the asymmetry of the pulse. With a long falling pulse, the number density can be significantly enhanced by over four orders of magnitude when certain frequency chirps are utilized. These results highlight the impact of the effective dynamically assisted mechanism and the frequency chirp on pair creation.

In particular, we focus on the ${\rm SU}(8)$ theory which can minimally embed three-generational SM fermions non-trivially. A reformulation of the third law for the flavor sector proposed by Georgi is useful to manifest the underlying global symmetries. The 't Hooft anomaly matching and the generalized neutrality conditions for Higgs fields play the key roles in defining the $B-L$ symmetry. Based on the global $B-L$ symmetry, we count the Higgs fields that can develop the VEVs and the massless sterile neutrinos in the ${\rm SU}(8)$ theory. We also prove that a global $B-L$ symmetry can always be defined in any ${\rm SU}(N\geq 6)$ theory when it is spontaneously broken to the SM gauge symmetry.

We study a possible gauge symmetry breaking pattern in an ${\rm SU}(7)$ grand unified theory, which describes the mass origins of all electrically charged SM fermions of the second and the third generations. Two intermediate gauge symmetries of ${\cal G}_{341}\equiv {\rm SU}(3)_c \otimes {\rm SU}(4)_W \otimes {\rm U}(1)_{X_0}$ and ${\cal G}_{331}\equiv {\rm SU}(3)_c \otimes {\rm SU}(3)_W \otimes {\rm U}(1)_{X_1}$ arise above the electroweak scale. SM fermion mass hierarchies between two generations can be obtained through a generalized seesaw mechanism. The mechanism can be achieved with suppressed symmetry breaking VEVs from multiple Higgs fields that are necessary to avoid tadpole terms in the Higgs potential. Some general features of the ${\rm SU}(7)$ fermion spectrum will be described, which include the existence of vectorlike fermions, the tree-level flavor changing weak currents between the SM fermions and heavy partner fermions, and the flavor non-universality between different SM generations from the extended weak sector.

We study a toy ${\rm SU}(6)$ model with the symmetry breaking pattern of the extended $331$ symmetry of ${\rm SU}(3)_c \otimes {\rm SU}(3)_W \otimes {\rm U}(1)_X$. A "fermion-Higgs mismatching" symmetry breaking pattern is proposed for more realistic model building. Within such symmetry breaking pattern, only one Higgs doublet develops vacuum expectation value for the spontaneous electroweak symmetry breaking, and gives tree-level top quark mass. A natural VEV splittings in the $331$ breaking Higgs fields gives tree-level masses to both bottom quark and tau lepton. The $125\,{\rm GeV}$ SM-like Higgs boson discovered at the LHC can have Yukawa couplings to bottom quark and tau lepton as in the SM prediction, and this suggests the $331$ symmetry breaking scale to be $\sim {\cal O}(10)\,{\rm TeV}$.

Two additional gauge groups of ${\rm SU}(10)$ and ${\rm SU}(11)$ can also achieve the generational structure without asymptotic freedom. We also find these models can solve the Peccei-Quinn (PQ) quality problem which is intrinsic in the axion models, with the leading PQ-breaking operators determined from the symmetry requirement.

An intermediate gauge symmetry breaking scale characterized by the axion decay constant is obtained by the Peccei-Quinn quality argument, which is likely to achieve a successful leptogenesis through the type-I seesaw mechanism. The Higgs sector at the electroweak scale is a type-II two-Higgs-doublet model. The gauge coupling unification is possible with the supersymmetric extension.

The hadronic decay mode of the $W$ boson is considered to maximize the number of signal events. When the mass split between $X^\pm$ and $X^0$ is large, one has to utilize the jet-substructure technique to analyze the boosted $W$-jet. For illustration we consider the process of chargino pair production at the LHC, i.e., $pp\to χ_1^+χ^-_1 \to W^+W^-χ_1^0χ_1^0$, and demonstrate that the proposed signature is able to cover more parameter space of $m_{χ_1^\pm}$ and $m_{χ_1^0}$ than the conventional signature of multiple leptons plus missing energy. More importantly, the signature of our interests is not sensitive to the spin of heavy resonances.

We find that this scenario exists in the alignment limit of $\sin(β-α)\simeq 0$ and is still allowed by the global fit of the 125 GeV Higgs and the direct searches for $H\to hh$ and $h\to γγ$. The case of $M_h<M_H/2$ is highly constrained as the exotic decay mode $H\to hh$ is kinematically allowed. We focus on the $M_h>M_H/2$ case and simulate the pair production of the light Higgs boson at the LHC. The pair production is sensitive to the soft $\mathbb{Z}_2$ symmetry breaking term $m_{12}$ in the 2HDM potential through the Higgs self-couplings. We find that the future high-luminosity LHC can discover the $b\bar{b}γγ$ signal in the region of $\tanβ\lesssim 1$ and $0<m_{12}<100$ GeV allowed by the theoretical constraints.

The 2HDM with the spontaneouse CP violation is found to have domain wall solutions whose tensions are $\mathcal{O}(10^6)\,{\rm GeV}^3$, which are excluded by the Zel'dovich-Kobzarev-Okun bound. With the explicit CP-violating (CPV) terms as the so-called biased term in the scalar potential, domain walls can collapse in the early Universe. The sizes of the explicit CP violation can be constrained from the Big Bang nucleosynthesis. This constraint is converted to the CPV mixing of $α_c$, and is mostly sensitive to the mass splittings between two heavy neutral Higgs bosons. We estimate the possible gravitational wave signals and the electric dipole moment (EDM) predictions due to the domain wall collapsing. It turns out that the peak spectrum of the GW from the domain wall collapsing cannot be probed in any future program. In contrast, the untenable regions with very tiny explicit CPV parameter in the Higgs potential has been partially excluded by the latest electron EDM measurements at the ACME-II and will be further confirmed or excluded by the future ACME-III projection.

We study the CP domain walls and the consequent gravitational waves induced by the spontaneous breaking of the CP symmetry in the complex singlet extension to the Standard Model. We impose the constraints from the unitarity, stability and the global minimal of the vacuum solutions on the model parameter space. The CP domain wall profiles and tensions are obtained by numerically solving the relevant field equations. The explicit CP violation terms are then introduced to the potential as biased terms to make the domain walls unstable and collapse, The BBN bound on the magnitude of the energy bias is taken into account. To achieve sufficiently strong gravitational wave signals, the domain wall tension $σ$ is required to be at least $σ/{\rm TeV}^3 \sim \mathcal{O}(10^3)$. We find that the gravitational wave spectrum can be probed in the future SKA and/or DECIGO programs, when the typical mass scale is at least $\sim \mathcal{O}(10)$ TeV and the explicit CP violation terms are as small as $\mathcal{O}(10^{-29}) - \mathcal{O}(10^{-27}) $. The gravitational waves from collapsing domain walls thus provide a complementarity to the probe of extremely small CP violation at high-energy scale.

We explore the extent to which future precision measurements of the Standard Model (SM) observables at the proposed $Z$-factories and Higgs factories may have impacts on new physics beyond the Standard Model, as illustrated by studying the Type-I Two-Higgs-doublet model (Type-I 2HDM). We include the contributions from the heavy Higgs bosons at the tree-level and at the one-loop level in a full model-parameter space. While only small $\tanβ$ region is strongly constrained at tree level, the large $\tanβ$ region gets constrained at loop level due to $\tanβ$ enhanced tri-Higgs couplings. We perform a multiple variable global fit with non-alignment and non-degenerate masses. We find that the allowed parameter ranges could be tightly constrained by the future Higgs precision measurements, especially for small and large values of $\tanβ$. Indirect limits on the masses of heavy Higgs bosons can be obtained, which can be complementary to the direct searches of the heavy Higgs bosons at hadron colliders. We also find that the expected accuracies at the $Z$-pole and at a Higgs factory are quite complementary in constraining mass splittings of heavy Higgs bosons. The typical results are $|\cos(β-α)| < 0.05, |Δm_Φ| < 200\ {\rm GeV}$, and $\tanβ\gtrsim 0.3$. The reaches from CEPC, FCCee and ILC are also compared, for both Higgs and $Z$-pole precision measurements. Based on a series constraints of the SM-like Higgs boson signal fits, the perturbative unitarity and stability bounds to the Higgs potential, and the most recent LHC searches for the heavy Higgs bosons, we suggest a set of benchmark models for the future high-energy collider searches for the Higgs pair productions. The $e^+ e^-$ colliders operating at $\sqrt{s}=$ (500 GeV, 1 TeV) are capable of measuring the Higgs cubic self couplings of the benchmark models directly. We also estimate the cross sections of the resonance contributions to the Higgs pair productions for the benchmark models at the future LHC and SppC/Fcc-hh runs.

We focus on the global picture when two $CP$-even Higgs bosons of $h$ and $H$ are nearly mass-degenerate. A global fit to the signal strength of the 125 GeV Higgs measured at the LHC is performed. Based on the best-fit result of the 2HDM mixing angles $(α,β)$, theoretical constraints, charged and $CP$-odd Higgs boson direct search constraints and the electroweak precision constraints are imposed to the 2HDM parameter space. We present the signal predictions of the $(4b\,, 2b\,2γ)$ channels for the benchmark models at the LHC 14 TeV runs. We also study the direct Higgs boson pair productions at the LHC, and the Z-associated Higgs boson pair production search at the ILC 500 GeV runs, as well as the indirect probes at the CEPC 250 GeV run. We find that the mass-degenerate Higgs boson scenario in the Type-II 2HDM can be fully probed by these future experimental searches.

In a class of new physics models, an extended Higgs sector and new CP-violating sources are simultaneously present in order to explain the baryon asymmetry in the Universe. The aim of this work is to study the implications of beyond the Standard Model (SM) CP violation for the searches of heavy scalars at the LHC. In particular, we focus on the diphoton channel searches in the CP-violating two-Higgs-doublet model (CPV 2HDM). To have a sizable CPV in the scalar sector, the two heavy neutral scalars in 2HDM tend to be nearly degenerate. The theoretical constraints of unitarity, perturbativity and vacuum stability are considered, which requires that the heavy scalars $M_H \lesssim 1$ TeV in a large region of the parameter space. The experimental limits are also taken into account, including the direct searches of heavy neutral scalars in the final state of the SM $h$, $W$ and $Z$ bosons, the differential $t\bar{t}$ data, those from the charged scalar sector which is implied by the oblique $T$ parameter, as well as the precise measurements of the electric dipole moments of electron and mercury. The quantum interference effects between the resonances and the SM background are crucially important for the diphoton signals, and the CPV mixing of the quasi-degenerate heavy scalars could enhance significantly the resonance peak. With an integrated luminosity of 3000 fb$^{-1}$ at the LHC, almost the whole parameter space of CPV 2HDM could be probed in the diphoton channel, and the CPV could also be directly detected via the diphoton spectrum.

We study the possible experimental searches for the neutral Higgs bosons of $A$ and $H$ at the future high-luminosity LHC runs. Besides of the conventional search modes that are inspired by the supersymmetric models, we discuss two search modes which were not quite addressed previously. They are the decay modes of $A\to hZ$ and $A/H \to t \bar t$. Thanks to the technique of tagging boosted objects of SM-like Higgs bosons and top quarks, we show the improved mass reaches for heavy neutral Higgs bosons with masses up to $\sim{\cal O}(1)\,\TeV$. The modes proposed here are complementary to the conventional experimental searches motivated by the MSSM.

The interpretation of the baryon asymmetry of the Universe necessitates the CP violation beyond the Standard Model (SM). We present a general cancellation mechanism in the theoretical predictions of the electron electric dipole moments (EDM), quark chromo-EDMs, and Weinberg operators. A relative large CP violation in the Higgs sector is allowed by the current electron EDM constraint released by the ACME collaboration in 2013, and the recent $^{199}$Hg EDM experiment. The cancellation mechanism can be induced by the mass splitting of heavy Higgs bosons around $\sim\mathcal{O}(0.1-1)$ GeV, and the extent of the mass degeneracy determines the magnitude of the CP-violating phase. We explicate this point by investigating the CP-violating two-Higgs-doublet model and the minimal supersymmetric Standard Model. The cancellation mechanism is general when there are CP violation and mixing in the Higgs sector of new physics models. The CP-violating phases in this scenario can be excluded or detected by the projected $^{225}$Ra EDM experiments with precision reaching $\sim10^{-28}\,e\cdot{\rm cm}$, as well as the future colliders.

In this paper, working in the simplified model and taking into consideration the wide decay width effect of the mediator, we analyze the characteristic signatures of mono-$b$+MET and 2$b$+MET at the LHC. The latter signature was believed to be ineffective, while we found that, with the aid of razor shape analysis, it should be as important as the mono-$b$ signature. In the region of relatively low mediator mass (below a few hundred GeV), by requiring the signal to background ratio greater than a few percent, the 2$b$-tagged razor analysis has comparable sensitivity to the mono-$b$ search; it is even better for mediator lighter than $\sim 200$ GeV.

More than one Higgs boson may be present near the currently discovered Higgs mass, which can not be properly resolved due to the limitations in the intrinsic energy resolution at the Large Hadron Collider. We investigated the scenarios where two $CP$-even Higgs bosons are degenerate in mass. To correctly predict the Higgs signatures, quantum interference effects between the two Higgs bosons must be taken into account, which, however, has been often neglected in the literature. We carried out a global analysis including the interference effects for a variety of Higgs searching channels at the Large Hadron Collider, which suggests that the existence of two degenerate Higgs bosons near 125 GeV is highly likely. Prospects of distinguishing the degenerate Higgs case from the single Higgs case are discussed.

A natural explanation is that $Φ$ is a pseudo-Nambu-Goldstone boson (pNGB) which receives parity violation through anomaly if there exists a hidden strong dynamics. The singlet and other light pNGBs will decay into two SM gauge bosons and even serves as the meta-stable coloured states which can be probed in the future. By accurately measuring their relative decay and the total production rate in the future, we will learn the underlying strong dynamics parameter. The lightest baryon in this confining theory could serve as a viable dark matter candidate.

Such a scenario with a 430 GeV dark matter can fit the recent positron fluxes observed by the AMS-02 Collaborations, with the reasonable boost factors. We study the possibility of searching such leptophilic $Z'$ via its lepton final states and invisible decay modes at the future electron-positron colliders, such as the International Linear Collider (ILC) and the Compact Linear Collider (CLIC). We find that for the benchmark models with $Z'$ mass from 1.0 TeV to 1.5 TeV, the searches for the invisible decays of $Z'\to \bar χχ$ is easily achieved at the CLIC 1.5 TeV runs via the mono-photon process. However, lighter $Z'$ with mass from 0.5 TeV to 0.8 TeV are challenging to see. The di-lepton plus single photon channel can reveal the $Z'$ mass at the ILC and CLIC with moderate luminosities.

It is particularly important in the scenario where two CP-even Higgs bosons in the two-Higgs-doublet model have the common mass of 125 GeV. An emission line with energy of $E\sim 3.5$ keV has been observed in galaxy clusters by two experiments. The emission line is consistent with the decay of a dark matter particle with a mass of $\sim 7$ keV. In this work we discuss the possibility that the dark particle responsible for the emission is a real scalar ($ρ$) which arises naturally in a $U(1)_X$ Stueckelberg of MSSM. In the MSSM Stueckelberg extension $ρ$ couples only to other scalars carrying a $U(1)_X$ quantum number. Under the assumption that there exists a vectorlike leptonic generation carrying both $SU(2)_L\times U(1)_Y$ and $U(1)_X$ quantum numbers, we compute the decay of the $ρ$ into two photons via a triangle loop involving scalars. The relic density of the $ρ$ arises via the decay $H^0\to h^0+ ρ$ at the loop level involving scalars, and via the annihilation processes of the vectorlike scalars into $ρ+ h^0$. It is shown that the galactic data can be explained within a multicomponent dark matter model where the 7 keV dark matter is a subdominant component constituting only $(1-10)$\% of the matter relic density with the rest being supersymmetric dark matter such as the neutralino. Thus the direct detection experiments remain viable searches for WIMPs. The fact that the dark scalar $ρ$ with no interactions with the standard model particles arises from a Stueckelberg extension of a hidden $U(1)_X$ implies that the 3.5 KeV galactic line emission is a signal from the hidden sector.

For CDMS-Si, separate exothermic dark matter or isospin-violating dark matter cannot fully ameliorate the tensions among these experiments; the tension disappears only if exothermic scattering is combined with an isospin-violating effect of f_n/f_p=-0.7. For such exothermic IVDM to exist, at least a new vector gauge boson (dark photon or dark Z') that connects SM quarks to Majorana-type DM particles is required.

Extra scalar fields are common in beyond Standard Model (SM) new physics, and they may mix with the 125 GeV SM-like Higgs boson discovered at the LHC. This fact suggests possible discovery channels for these new scalar fields with their decay modes involving the 125 GeV Higgs boson. In this work, we explore the LHC search potential of the heavy CP-even Higgs boson H in the two-Higgs-doublet model. We focus on the channel of H decaying to a pair of light CP-even Higgs bosons h, with two h's decaying to two b jets and diphoton sequentially. This channel is particularly involved when the relevant cubic coupling is enhanced. We find such enhancement to be possible when taking a large CP-odd Higgs mass input for the two-Higgs-doublet model spectrum. Analogous to the SM Higgs self-coupling measurement, the two b jets plus diphoton final states are of particular interest due to the manageable SM background. After performing a cut-based analysis of both signal and background processes, we demonstrate the LHC search sensitivities for the heavy CP-even Higgs boson in a broad mass range via the two b jets plus diphoton final states.

We identify the lighter Higgs state h with mass 125GeV, and derive the unitarity bound on the mass of heavier Higgs boson H. The parameter space of this model is highly predictive. We study the production and decay signals of this 125GeV Higgs boson h at the LHC. We demonstrate that the h Higgs boson can naturally have enhanced signals in the diphoton channel $gg \to h \toγγ$, while the events rates in the reactions $gg \to h \to WW^*$ and $gg \to h \to ZZ^*$ are generally suppressed relative to the SM expectation. Searching the h Higgs boson via associated productions and vector boson fusions are also discussed for our model. We further analyze the LHC signals of the heavier Higgs boson H as a distinctive new physics discriminator from the SM. For wide mass-ranges of H, we derive constraints from the existing LHC searches, and study the discovery potential of H at the LHC(8TeV) and LHC(14TeV).

The latest ATLAS and CMS searches for the SM Higgs boson at the LHC (7TeV) found some intriguing excesses of events in the γγ/VV^* channels (V=Z,W) around the mass-range of 124-126 GeV. We explore a possible explanation of the γγand VV^* signals from the light CP-odd Higgs A^0 or CP-even Higgs h^0 from the general two-Higgs-doublet model with fourth-family fermions. We demonstrate that by including invisible decays of the Higgs boson A^0 or h^0 to fourth-family neutrinos, the predicted γγand VV^* signals can explain the observed new signatures at the LHC, and will be further probed by the forthcoming LHC runs in 2012.

The CMS and the ATLAS Collaborations have recently reported on the search for supersymmetry with 35 pb$^{-1}$ of data and have put independent limits on the parameter space of the supergravity unified model with universal boundary conditions at the GUT scale for soft breaking, i.e., the mSUGRA model. We extend this study by examining other regions of the mSUGRA parameter space in $A_0$ and $\tanβ$. Further, we contrast the reach of CMS and ATLAS with 35 pb$^{-1}$ of data with the indirect constraints, i.e., the constraints from the Higgs boson mass limits, from flavor physics and from the dark matter limits from WMAP. Specifically it is found that a significant part of the parameter space excluded by CMS and ATLAS is essentially already excluded by the indirect constraints and the fertile region of parameter space has yet to be explored. We also emphasize that gluino masses as low as 400 GeV but for squark masses much larger than the gluino mass remain unconstrained and further that much of the hyperbolic branch of radiative electroweak symmetry breaking, with low values of the Higgs mixing parameter $μ$, is essentially untouched by the recent LHC analysis.

We analyze supergravity models that predict a low mass gluino within the landscape of sparticle mass hierarchies. The analysis includes a broad class of models that arise in minimal and in non-minimal supergravity unified frameworks and in extended models with additional $U(1)^n_X$ hidden sector gauge symmetries. Gluino masses in the range $(350-700)$ GeV are investigated. Masses in this range are promising for early discovery at the LHC at $\sqrt s =7$ TeV (LHC-7). The models exhibit a wide dispersion in the gaugino-Higgsino eigencontent of their LSPs and in their associated sparticle mass spectra. A signature analysis is carried out and the prominent discovery channels for the models are identified with most models needing only $\sim 1 \rm fb^{-1}$ for discovery at LHC-7. In addition, significant variations in the discovery capability of the low mass gluino models are observed for models in which the gluino masses are of comparable size due to the mass splittings in different models and the relative position of the light gluino within the various sparticle mass hierarchies. The models are consistent with the current stringent bounds from the Fermi-LAT, CDMS-II, XENON100, and EDELWEISS-2 experiments. A subclass of these models, which include a mixed-wino LSP and a Higgsino LSP, are also shown to accommodate the positron excess seen in the PAMELA satellite experiment.

The models are compliant with the photon constraints recently set by Fermi-LAT and produce positron as well as antiproton fluxes consistent with the PAMELA experiment. The SUGRA models considered have an extended hidden sector with extra degrees of freedom which allow for a satisfaction of relic density consistent with WMAP. The Higgsino models are also consistent with the CDMS-II and XENON100 data and are discoverable at LHC-7 with 1 fb^(-1) of luminosity. The models are testable on several fronts.

Recent re-evaluations of the Standard Model (SM) contribution to ${\mathcal Br(b\to sγ)$ hint at a positive correction from new physics. Since a charged Higgs boson exchange always gives a positive contribution to this branching ratio, the constraint points to the possibility of a relatively light charged Higgs. It is found that under the HFAG constraints and with re-evaluated SM results large cancellations between the charged Higgs and the chargino contributions in supersymmetric models occur. Such cancellations then correlate the charged Higgs and the chargino masses often implying both are light. Inclusion of the more recent evaluation of $g_μ-2$ is also considered. The combined constraints imply the existence of several light sparticles. Signatures arising from these light sparticles are investigated and the analysis indicates the possibility of their early discovery at the LHC in a significant part of the parameter space. We also show that for certain restricted regions of the parameter space, such as for very large $\tanβ$ under the $1σ$ HFAG constraints, the signatures from Higgs production supersede those from sparticle production and may become the primary signatures for the discovery of supersymmetry.

Form factors and decay widths for $D^{\ast}\rightarrow D γ$ and $D^{\ast}\rightarrow D π$ decays are estimated in a relativistic constituent quark model. Relativistic corrections due to light quarks are found to be substantial and to suppress the vector and axial vector form factors. The CLEO experimental value of $R^0_γ\equiv Γ(D^{\ast 0}\rightarrow D^{0} γ)/ Γ(D^{\ast 0}\rightarrow D^{0} π^{0})=0.572\pm 0.057\pm 0.081$ is used to determine the quark axial vector coupling $g_A$, which is found to be $0.6-0.8$ for $m_u=(350-200) MeV$ correspondingly, as compared with the chiral model result $g_{A}= 0.8-0.9$. The heavy meson-pion strong coupling $g$ is found to be $0.4-0.6$, much smaller than $g=1$ which is expected in the large $N_{C}$ and nonrelativistic limit, but consistent with some heavy hadron chiral theory and QCD sum rule results. The failure of nonrelativistic treatment for the light quark in the heavy meson decays is also emphasized.
