Despite being remarkable predictive, the Standard Model leaves unanswered several important issues, which motivate an ongoing search for its extensions. One fashionable possibility are the so-called 331 models, where the electroweak gauge group is extended to $SU_L(3)\times U(1)$. We focus on a minimal extension which includes vector-like quarks (VLQs) and new gauge bosons, performing a consistent analysis of the production at LHC of a pair of doubly-charged bileptons. We include for the first time all the relevant processes where VLQs contribute, and in particular the associate production VLQ-bilepton. Finally, we extract the bound on the bilepton mass, $m_Y>$ 1300 GeV, from a reinterpretation of a recent ATLAS search for doubly-charged Higgs bosons in multi-lepton final states.

Abstract:
Heavy flavour physics is well described by the Standard Model with the exception of some measurements which could be pointing to new physics. We briefly review status and prospects of $R(D^{(\ast)})$ and $R(K^{(\ast)})$ anomalies and also address the long standing tension in the $|V_{cb}|$ and $|V_{ub}|$ exclusive/inclusive determinations.

We discuss as accurately as possible the cross section of quasi-elastic scattering of electron (anti-)neutrinos on nucleons, also known as inverse beta decay in the case of antineutrinos. We focus on the moderate energy range from a few MeV up to hundreds of MeV, which includes neutrinos from reactors and supernovae. We assess the uncertainty on the cross section, which is relevant to experimental advances and increasingly large statistical samples. We estimate the effects of second-class currents, showing that they are small and negligible for current applications.

Core-collapse supernovae are among the most magnificent events in the observable universe. They produce many of the chemical elements necessary for life to exist and their remnants -- neutron stars and black holes -- are interesting astrophysical objects in their own right. However, despite millennia of observations and almost a century of astrophysical study, the explosion mechanism of core-collapse supernovae is not yet well understood. Hyper-Kamiokande is a next-generation neutrino detector that will be able to observe the neutrino flux from the next galactic core-collapse supernova in unprecedented detail. We focus on the first 500 ms of the neutrino burst, corresponding to the accretion phase, and use a newly-developed, high-precision supernova event generator to simulate Hyper-Kamiokande's response to five different supernova models. We show that Hyper-Kamiokande will be able to distinguish between these models with high accuracy for a supernova at a distance of up to 100 kpc. Once the next galactic supernova happens, this ability will be a powerful tool for guiding simulations towards a precise reproduction of the explosion mechanism observed in nature.

The detector which has an 8.4~times larger effective volume than its predecessor will be located along the T2K neutrino beamline and utilize an upgraded J-PARC beam with 2.6~times beam power. Hyper-K's low energy threshold combined with the very large fiducial volume make the detector unique, that is expected to acquire an unprecedented exposure of 3.8~Mton$\cdot$year over a period of 20~years of operation. Hyper-Kamiokande combines an extremely diverse science program including nucleon decays, long-baseline neutrino oscillations, atmospheric neutrinos, and neutrinos from astrophysical origins. The scientific scope of this program is highly complementary to liquid-argon detectors for example in sensitivity to nucleon decay channels or supernova detection modes. Hyper-Kamiokande construction has started in early 2020 and the experiment is expected to start operations in 2027. The Hyper-Kamiokande collaboration is presently being formed amongst groups from 19 countries including the United States, whose community has a long history of making significant contributions to the neutrino physics program in Japan. US physicists have played leading roles in the Kamiokande, Super-Kamiokande, EGADS, K2K, and T2K programs.

In this review we present and discuss the determination of the magnitude of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) matrix parameter $V_{cb}$. The CKM matrix parametrizes the weak charged current interactions of quarks in the Standard Model (SM), and a precise determination of its elements has always been one of the most important targets of particle physics. The precise knowledge of the $|V_{cb}|$ value plays a pivotal role in testing the flavour sector of the SM and in the analyses of the unitarity of the CKM matrix. The SM does not predict the values of the CKM matrix elements, which have to be extracted by experimental data. Given the variety of channels that allow the extraction of $|V_{cb}|$, different theoretical and experimental techniques are mustered for the $|V_{cb}|$ determination. The exertion toward precision represents not only a significant test of our theoretical procedures but a stimulus towards better detection performances. The most precise measurements of $|V_{cb}|$ come from semileptonic decays, that being tree level at the lowest order in the SM are generally considered unaffected by physics beyond the SM.
After summarizing the characteristics of the SM that set the frame for the determination of $|V_{cb}|$, we discuss inclusive and exclusive semileptonic $B$ decays. We analyze the $|V_{cb}|$ extraction methods and recent results, detailing both the theoretical and experimental techniques, and, finally, outline future prospects. We also comment on exclusive decays into heavy leptons, on the observables $R(D)$ and $R(D^\ast)$, on decays to excited $D$ meson states and on baryon decays.

We present the physics program of the Belle II experiment, located on the intensity frontier SuperKEKB $e^+e^-$ collider. Belle II collected its first collisions in 2018, and is expected to operate for the next decade. It is anticipated to collect 50/ab of collision data over its lifetime. This book is the outcome of a joint effort of Belle II collaborators and theorists through the Belle II theory interface platform (B2TiP), an effort that commenced in 2014. The aim of B2TiP was to elucidate the potential impacts of the Belle II program, which includes a wide scope of physics topics: B physics, charm, tau, quarkonium, electroweak precision measurements and dark sector searches. It is composed of nine working groups (WGs), which are coordinated by teams of theorist and experimentalists conveners: Semileptonic and leptonic B decays, Radiative and Electroweak penguins, phi_1 and phi_2 (time-dependent CP violation) measurements, phi_3 measurements, Charmless hadronic B decay, Charm, Quarkonium(like), tau and low-multiplicity processes, new physics and global fit analyses. This book highlights "golden- and silver-channels", i.e. those that would have the highest potential impact in the field. Theorists scrutinised the role of those measurements and estimated the respective theoretical uncertainties, achievable now as well as prospects for the future. Experimentalists investigated the expected improvements with the large dataset expected from Belle II, taking into account improved performance from the upgraded detector.

However, several reasons remain why we firmly believe that there should be physics beyond the Standard Model. Experiments such as the LHC, new $B$ factories, and earth- and space-based astro-particle experiments provide us with unique opportunities to discover a coherent framework for many of the long-standing puzzles of our field. Here we explore several significant interconnections between the physics of the Higgs boson, the physics of flavour, and the experimental clues we have about dark matter.

We discuss how the strong interaction is intimately connected to a broad sweep of physical problems, in settings ranging from astrophysics and cosmology to strongly-coupled, complex systems in particle and condensed-matter physics, as well as to searches for physics beyond the Standard Model. We also discuss how success in describing the strong interaction impacts other fields, and, in turn, how such subjects can impact studies of the strong interaction. In the course of the work we offer a perspective on the many research streams which flow into and out of QCD, as well as a vision for future developments.

This report describes the scientific aims and potentials as well as the preliminary technical design of IRIDE, an innovative tool for multi-disciplinary investigations in a wide field of scientific, technological and industrial applications. IRIDE will be a high intensity 'particle factory', based on a combination of a high duty cycle radio-frequency superconducting electron linac and of high energy lasers. Conceived to provide unique research possibilities for particle physics, for condensed matter physics, chemistry and material science, for structural biology and industrial applications, IRIDE will open completely new research possibilities and advance our knowledge in many branches of science and technology. IRIDE will contribute to open new avenues of discoveries and to address most important riddles: What does matter consist of? What is the structure of proteins that have a fundamental role in life processes? What can we learn from protein structure to improve the treatment of diseases and to design more efficient drugs? But also how does an electronic chip behave under the effect of radiations? How can the heat flow in a large heat exchanger be optimized? The scientific potential of IRIDE is far reaching and justifies the construction of such a large facility in Italy in synergy with the national research institutes and companies and in the framework of the European and international research. It will impact also on R&D work for ILC, FEL, and will be complementarity to other large scale accelerator projects. IRIDE is also intended to be realized in subsequent stages of development depending on the assigned priorities.

The $B^0_{s,d} \to J/ψη^{(\prime)}$ decays provide new terrain for exploring CP violation. After briefly discussing $η$-$η'$ mixing, we analyse the effective lifetimes and CP-violating observables of the $B_s$ channels, which allow us to probe New-Physics effects in $B^0_s$-$\bar B^0_s$ mixing. We have a critical look at these observables and show how hadronic corrections can be controlled by means of the $B_d$ decays. Using measurements of the $B^0_{s,d}\to J/ψη^{(\prime)}$ branching ratios by the Belle collaboration, we discuss tests of the $SU(3)_F$ flavour symmetry of strong interactions, obtain the first constraints on the hadronic parameters entering the $B^0_{s,d} \to J/ψη$ system, and predict the $B^0_d\to J/ψη'$ branching ratio at the $5\times10^{-6}$ level. Furthermore, we present strategies for the determination of the $η$-$η'$ mixing parameters from the $B^0_{s,d} \to J/ψη^{(\prime)}$ observables. We also observe that the $B^0_{s,d} \to J/ψη$ and $B^0_{s,d} \to J/ψη'$ decays are - from a formal point of view - analogous to the quark-antiquark and tetraquark descriptions of the $f_0(980)$ in the $B^0_{s,d} \to J/ψf_0(980)$ channels, respectively.

The $B^0_s\to J/ψf_0(980)$ decay offers an interesting experimental alternative to the well-known $B^0_s\to J/ψφ$ channel for the search of CP-violating New-Physics contributions to $B^0_s$--$\bar B^0_s$ mixing. As the hadronic structure of the $f_0(980)$ has not yet been settled, we take a critical look at the implications for the relevant observables and address recent experimental data. It turns out that the effective lifetime of $B^0_s\to J/ψf_0(980)$ and its mixing-induced CP asymmetry $S$ are quite robust with respect to hadronic effects and thereby allow us to search for a large CP-violating $B^0_s$--$\bar B^0_s$ mixing phase $φ_s$, which is tiny in the Standard Model. However, should small CP violation, i.e. in the range $-0.1\lsim S\lsim 0$, be found in $B^0_s\to J/ψf_0(980)$, it will be crucial to constrain hadronic corrections in order to distinguish possible New-Physics effects from the Standard Model. We point out that $B^0_d\to J/ψf_0(980)$, which has not yet been measured, is a key channel in this respect and discuss the physics potential of this decay.

By analyzing B -> X_u l nu_l spectra with a model based on soft-gluon resummation and an analytic time-like QCD coupling, we obtain |V_ub| = (3.76 +-0.13 +- 0.22)*10^(-3), where the first and the second error refers to experimental and theoretical errors, respectively. The V_ub value is obtained from the available measured semileptonic branching fractions in limited regions of the phase-space. The distributions in the lepton energy E_l, the hadron invariant mass m_X, the light-cone momentum P_+ = E_X - p_X, together with the double distributions in (m_X,q^2) and (E_l,s_h^max), are used to select the phase-space regions. The q^2 is the dilepton squared momentum and s_h^max is the maximal m_X^2 at fixed q^2 and E_l. The V_ub value obtained is in complete agreement with the value coming from exclusive B decays and from an over-all fit to the Standard Model parameters. We show that the slight disagreement (up to +2 sigma) with respect to previous inclusive measurements is not related to different choices for the b (and c) masses but to a different modelling of the threshold (Sudakov) region.
