Abstract:
We review how lattice QCD can contribute to the prediction and the comprehension of tetraquarks, pentaquarks and related exotic hadrons, with at least one heavy quark. We include all families of exotic hadrons, except for the quarkless glueballs and the hexaquarks which are related to nuclear physics.

Since the discovery of quarks and the development of the QCD theory, there has been a large interest in exotic hadrons, initiated by the tetraquark models developed by Jaffe in 1977. Lattice QCD, being a first principle approach to solve non-perturbative QCD, has been crucial not only to compute precise results, but also to inspire research in hadronic physics.
In the new millennium, this interest exploded with several experimental discoveries of tetraquark and pentaquark resonances with heavy quarks, starting with the Zc and Zb. Lattice QCD has not yet been able to comprehend this Z class of tetraquarks, and is developing new methods to determine their masses, decay widths and decay processes.
The interest in tetraquarks was also fuelled by the lattice QCD prediction of a second class of tetraquarks such as the Tbb, boundstates in the sense of having no strong decays. Recently, the Tcc tetraquark, first predicted with quark models in 1982 by Richard et al, was observed experimentally. We expect the lattice QCD community will be able to explore this T class of tetraquarks in more detail and with very precise results.
We report on all the different direct and indirect approaches that lattice QCD, with more focus on tetraquarks, has been employing to study exotic hadrons with at least one heavy quark. We also briefly review the experimental progress in observing tetraquarks and pentaquarks, and some of the theoretical paradigms of tetraquarks, including three different types of mechanisms (diquark, molecular and s pole), comparing them with the results of lattice QCD.

Abstract:
We investigate $B \bar B$ systems by computing potentials of two static quarks in the presence of two quarks of finite mass using lattice QCD. By solving the Schrödinger equation we check whether these potentials are sufficiently attractive to host bound states. Particular focus is put on the experimentally most promising bottomonium-like tetraquark candidate $Z_b^\pm$ with quantum numbers…

Abstract:
We combine lattice QCD results for the potential of two static antiquarks in the presence of two quarks $q q$ of finite mass and quark model techniques to study possibly existing $q q \bar{b} \bar{b}$ tetraquarks. While there is strong indication for a bound four-quark state for $q q = (ud-du) / \sqrt{2}$, i.e. isospin $I=0$, we find clear evidence against the existence of corresponding tetraquark…

Abstract:
Utilizing lattice QCD results for the potential of two static antiquarks and two dynamical quarks as well as quark model techniques for the dynamics of two heavy antiquarks in a cloud of two light quarks, we are provided with an accurate framework for the study of possibly existing heavy-heavy-light-light tetraquarks. Among the possible quantum numbers of such a system, we find binding in only one channel, the scalar isosinglet. Solving the Schroedinger equation for the displacement of the heavy antiquarks and taking systematic errors into account, we find an antibottom-antibottom-light-light bound state with a confidence level of around 1.8 sigma ... 3.0 sigma and binding energy of approximately 30 MeV ... 57 MeV.

Abstract:
In high energy Heavy Ion Collisions, the onset of the quark-gluon plasma is the colour glass condensate, dominated by gluons. The final state is hadronic, and dominated by pions and kaons. Here we investigate an effective approach of QCD with these bosonic fields and which can help to describe the transition of gluons into light mesons. Formally, our approach consists in integrating out the quark fields from the QCD path integral, utilizing auxiliary fields. In this way the fermionic fields are replaced by light mesons, such as the pions and sigma field. We apply our effective action to compute the number of pions and kaons per gluon emitted by a Boltzmann gluon gas, their multiplicities as function of a gluon mass. We conclude that an effective gluon mass remains finite at T=Tc.
