Two-stage growth for highly ordered epitaxial C$_{60}$ films on Au(111)
Abstract: As an organic semiconductor and a prototypical acceptor molecule in organic photovoltaics, C$_{60}$ has broad relevance to the world of organic thin film electronics. Although highly uniform C$_{60}$ thin films are necessary to conduct spectroscopic analysis of the electronic structure of these C$_{60}$-based materials, reported C$_{60}$ films show a relatively low degree of order beyond a monolay… ▽ More

$τ^- \to π^- ην_τ$ decay induced by QED one-loop effects
Abstract: The $τ^- \to π^-ην_τ$ decay is forbidden in the Standard Model in the limit of exact $G$-parity, it becomes a rare decay due to isospin symmetry breaking and it is very sensitive to the effects of effective scalar interactions. Since the parameters driving isospin breaking, $(m_d-m_u)/(m_s-\bar{m})$ and $α$, are of the same order, one may expect their $G$-parity breaking effects in this decay can… ▽ More

Michel parameters in the presence of massive Dirac and Majorana neutrinos
Abstract: We analyse the effects of Dirac and Majorana neutrinos on leptonic decays of muon and tau leptons using the most general four-lepton effective interaction Hamiltonian of dimension six. $Δ$L=2 hyperon decays induced by Majorana neutrinos and doubly-charged scalars
Abstract: Searches for $ΔL=2$ decays are crucial to disentangle the Dirac vs Majorana nature of neutrinos. While neutrinoless nuclear double beta decays are the most promising tool to look for di-electron signals of $ΔL=2$, searches of di-lepton channels with other flavors are far less limited by statistics. We revisit the calculation of $ΔL=2$ decays of hyperons $B^-_i\to B^+_f\ell^-\ell'^-$. We compute th… ▽ More

Improved description of di-lepton production in $τ^-\toν_τP^-$ decays
Abstract: Recently, the Belle collaboration reported the first measurements of the $τ^- \toν_τπ^-e^+e^-$ branching fraction and the spectrum of the pion-dielectron system. In an analysis previous to Belle's results, we evaluated this branching fraction which turned out to be compatible with that reported by Belle, although with a large uncertainty. Tests of the Atomki anomaly in lepton pair decays of heavy mesons
Abstract: The anomalies recently reported in lepton pair transitions of $^8$Be$^*$ and $^4$He nuclei may be attributed to the existence of a feebly interacting light vector boson $X17$. QFT results for neutrino oscillations and New Physics
Abstract: The CP asymmetry in neutrino oscillations, assuming new physics at production and/or detection processes, is analyzed. We compute this CP asymmetry using the standard quantum field theory within a general new physics scenario that may generate new sources of CP and flavor violation. Well known results for the CP asymmetry are reproduced in the case of V -A operators, and additional contributions… ▽ More

Structure-dependent radiative corrections to phi -> K^+K^-/K_LK_S decays
Abstract: Current predictions for the ratio of phi -> K^+K^-/K_LK_S decay rates exceed the corresponding experimental value in about five standard deviations. By far, the dominant sources of isospin breaking to this ratio are the phase-space (52%) and the electromagnetic radiative (4.3%, computed within scalar QED) corrections. Here we estimate the effects of the electromagnetic structure of kaons and oth… ▽ More

(ω, φ) P^- decays of tau leptons
Abstract: The τ-> (ω, φ)P^-νdecays, where P^-=π^-, K^-, are considered within a phenomenological model with dominance of meson intermediate states. We assume SU(3) flavor symmetry to fix some of the unknown strong interaction couplings. Our predictions for the τ-> φ(π^-, K^-)νbranching fractions are in good agreement with recent measurements of the BABAR and BELLE Collaborations.

$ΔL=2$ hyperon semileptonic decays
Abstract: We compute the rates of semileptonic B_A \to B_Bl^-l^- (l=e or μ) hyperon transitions in a model where intermediate states involve loops of baryons and a Majorana neutrino. These rates turn out to be well below present experimental bounds and other theoretical estimates. From the experimental upper limit on the Ξ^- \to pμ^-μ^- decay, we derive the bound <m_{μμ}> < 22 TeV for the effective Majora… ▽ More

The width difference of rho vector mesons
Abstract: We compute the difference in decay widths of charged and neutral ρ(770) vector mesons. The isospin breaking arising from mass differences of neutral and charged πand ρmesons, radiative corrections to ρ-> ππ, and the ρ-> ππγdecays are taken into account. It is found that the width difference ΔΓ_rho is very sensitive ot the isospin breaking in the $ρ$ meson mass Δm_ρ. This result can be useful to… ▽ More

Preeminent role of the Van Hove singularity in the strong-coupling analysis of scanning tunneling spectroscopy for two-dimensional cuprates
Abstract: In two dimensions the non-interacting density of states displays a Van Hove singularity (VHS) which introduces an intrinsic electron-hole asymmetry, absent in three dimensions. We show that due to this VHS the strong-coupling analysis of tunneling spectra in high-$T_c$ superconductors must be reconsidered. Based on a microscopic model which reproduces the experimental data with great accuracy, w… ▽ More

Is there a paradox in CP asymmetries of tau to K_{L,S} pi nu decays?
Abstract: Based on the description of unstable $K_{L,S}$ particles in quantum field theory (QFT), we compute the time-dependent probabilities for transitions between asymptotic states in $τ^{\pm} \to [π^+π^-]_Kπ^{\pm}ν$ decays, where the pair $[π^+π^-]_K$ is the product of (intermediate state) neutral kaon decays. Then we propose a definition of $τ$ decays into $K_L$ and $K_S$ states, which reflects into… ▽ More

Model-dependent radiative corrections to tau- -> pi- pi0 nu revisited
Abstract: The long-distance electromagnetic radiative corrections to tau- -> pi- pi0 nu are re-evaluated. A meson dominance model is used to describe the emission of real photons in this decay. Results obtained for the hadronic spectrum and the decay rate in photon inclusive reactions are compared with previous calculations based on the chiral resonance theory. Independent tests in tau -> pi pi nu gamma t… ▽ More

The unit of electric charge and the mass hierarchy of heavy particles
Abstract: We propose some empirical formulae relating the masses of the heaviest particles in the standard model (the W,Z,H bosons and the t quark) to the charge of the positron $e$ and the Higgs condensate v. The relations for the masses of gauge bosons m_W = (1+e)v/4 and m_Z=sqrt{(1+e^2)/2}*(v/2) are in excellent agreement with experimental values. By requiring the electroweak standard model to be free… ▽ More

Long-distance radiative corrections to the di-pion tau lepton decay
Abstract: We evaluate the model-dependent piece of O(alpha) long-distance radiative corrections to tau^- \to π^- π^0ν_τ decays by using a meson dominance model. We find that these corrections to the di-pion invariant mass spectrum are smaller than in previous calculations based on chiral perturbation theory. The corresponding correction to the photon inclusive rate is tiny (-0.15%) but it can be of releva… ▽ More

Supersymmetry and CP violation in |ΔS|=1 tau-decays
Abstract: We compute the SUSY effective hamiltonian that describes the |ΔS|=1 semileptonic decays of tau leptons. We provide analytical expressions for supersymmetric contribution to tau --> u bar{s} nu_{tau} transition in mass insertion approximation. We show that SUSY contributions may enhance the CP asymmetry of tau --> K pi nu_{tau} decays by several orders of magnitude than the standard model expecta… ▽ More

Radiative two-pion decay of the tau lepton
Abstract: We consider the bremsstrahlung and model-dependent contributions to the radiative decay $τ^- \to π^-π^0ν_τγ$ in the context of a meson dominance model. We focus on several observables related to this decay, including the branching ratio and the photon and di-pion spectra. Particular attention is paid to the sensitivity of different observables upon the effects of model-dependent contributions an… ▽ More
