Title: Brauer $p$-dimension and Kato's Swan ConductorComments: 31 pagesSubjects: Algebraic Geometry (math.AG); Number Theory (math.NT); Rings and Algebras (math.RA)
We use Kato's Swan conductor to study the Brauer $p$-dimension of fields of characteristic $p>0$. We mainly investigate two types of fields: henselian discretely valued fields and semi-global fields. While investigating the Brauer $p$-dimension of semi-global fields, we use a Gersten-type sequence to analyse the ramification behavior of a Brauer class in a $2$-dimensional regular local ring. Using this result, we give a partial result on the Brauer $p$-dimension of function fields of algebraic curves over $\bar{k}((t))$ with good reduction.

Title: Classification of Horikawa surfaces with T-singularitiesSubjects: Algebraic Geometry (math.AG); Differential Geometry (math.DG); Geometric Topology (math.GT); Symplectic Geometry (math.SG)
We classify all projective surfaces with only T-singularities, $K^2=2p_g-4$, and ample canonical class. In this way, we identify all surfaces, smoothable or not, with only T-singularities in the Kollár--Shepherd-Barron--Alexeev (KSBA) moduli space of Horikawa surfaces. We also prove that they are not smoothable when $p_g \geq 10$, except for the Lee-Park (Fintushel-Stern) examples, which we show to have only one deformation type unless $p_g=6$ (in which case they have two). This demonstrates that the challenging Horikawa problem cannot be addressed through complex T-degenerations, and we propose new questions regarding diffeomorphism types based on our classification. Furthermore, the techniques developed in this paper enable us to classify all KSBA surfaces with only T-singularities and $K^2=2p_g-3$, e.g. quintic surfaces and I-surfaces.

Title: Toward the classification of threefold extremal contractions with one-dimensional fibersComments: 31 page , LaTeXSubjects: Algebraic Geometry (math.AG)
An extremal curve germ is a germ of a threefold $X$ with terminal singularities along a connected reduced complete curve~$C$ such that there exists a $K_X$-negative contraction $f : X \to Z$ with~$C$ being a fiber. We give a rough classification of extremal curve germs with reducible central curve~$C$.

Title: Indecomposable direct summands of cohomologies of curvesComments: 27 pagesSubjects: Algebraic Geometry (math.AG)
Groups with a non-cyclic Sylow $p$-subgroup have too many representations over a field of characteristic~$p$ to describe them fully. A~natural question arises, whether the world of representations coming from algebraic varieties with a group action is as vast as the realm of all modular representations. In this article, we explore the possible ``building blocks'' (the indecomposable direct summands) of cohomologies of smooth projective curves with a group action. We show that usually there are infinitely many such possible summands. To prove this, we study a family of $\mathbb Z/p \times \mathbb Z/p$-covers and describe the cohomologies of the members of this family completely.

Title: Proudfoot-Speyer degenerations of scattering equationsSubjects: Algebraic Geometry (math.AG); High Energy Physics - Theory (hep-th); Combinatorics (math.CO)
We study scattering equations of hyperplane arrangements from the perspective of combinatorial commutative algebra and numerical algebraic geometry. We formulate the problem as linear equations on a reciprocal linear space and develop a degeneration-based homotopy algorithm for solving them. We investigate the Hilbert regularity of the corresponding homogeneous ideal and apply our methods to CHY scattering equations.

Title: Non-equivalences of motivic codimension filtration quotientsComments: Theorems A, B ware not presented before. Theorem C was once presented and already deleted in arxiv: 2311.16264 before it was included in this new preprintSubjects: Algebraic Geometry (math.AG); K-Theory and Homology (math.KT)
We prove that a motivic equivalence of objects of the form \begin{equation*} X/(X-x)\simeq X^\prime/(X^\prime-x^\prime) \end{equation*} in $\mathbf{H}^\bullet(B)$ or $\mathbf{DM}(B)$ over a scheme $B$, where $x$ and $x^\prime$ are closed points of smooth $B$-schemes $X$ and $X^\prime$, implies an isomorphism of residue fields, i.e. \[x\cong x^\prime.\]
For a given $d\geq 0$, $X,X^\prime\in\mathrm{Sm}_B$, $\operatorname{dim}_B X=d=\operatorname{dim}_B X^\prime$, and closed points $x$ and $x^\prime$ that residue fields are simple extensions of the ones of $B$, we show an isomorphism of groups \[\mathrm{Hom}_{\mathbf{DM}(B)}(X/(X-x),X^\prime/(X^\prime-x^\prime)))\cong\mathrm{Cor}(x,x^\prime),\] and prove that it leads to an equivalence of subcategories.
Additionally, using the result on perverse homotopy heart by F.~Déglise and N.~Feld and F.~Jin and the strict homotopy invariance theorem for presheaves with transfers over fields by the first author, we prove an equivalence of the Rost cycle modules category and the homotopy heart of $\mathbf{DM}(k)$ over a field $k$ with integral coefficients. - [7] arXiv:2410.03664 [pdf, html, other]

Title: Families of Pairs of Genus 2 Curves with Isomorphic Unpolarized JacobiansSubjects: Algebraic Geometry (math.AG)
We construct three families of pairs of genus 2 curves over a field K, whose Jacobians are isomorphic as unpolarized abelian varieties. Each family is parameterized by an open subset of the Projective line over K. Our construction is based on a remark in a paper by Howe. Later, we describe an obstruction to perusing the same technique over Q.

Title: Brauer $p$-dimension of henselian discretely valued fields over characteristic $p>0$Comments: 22 pagesSubjects: Number Theory (math.NT); Algebraic Geometry (math.AG); Rings and Algebras (math.RA)
We use Kato's Swan conductor to systematically investigate the Brauer $p$-dimension of henselian discretely valued fields of residual characteristic $p>0$. We transform the period-index problem of these fields into the symbol length problem for certain abelian groups relating to Kahler differentials of residue fields.

Title: 3d Mirror Symmetry is Mirror SymmetrySubjects: Mathematical Physics (math-ph); Algebraic Geometry (math.AG); Representation Theory (math.RT); Symplectic Geometry (math.SG)
3d mirror symmetry is a mysterious duality for certian pairs of hyperkähler manifolds, or more generally complex symplectic manifolds/stacks. In this paper, we will describe its relationships with 2d mirror symmetry. This could be regarded as a 3d analog of the paper "Mirror Symmetry is T-Duality" by Strominger, Yau and Zaslow which described 2d mirror symmetry via 1d dualities.

Title: Tropical invariants for binary quintics and reduction types of Picard curvesComments: 25 pagesJournal-ref: Glasgow Mathematical Journal , Volume 66 , Issue 1 , January 2024 , pp. 65 - 87Subjects: Algebraic Geometry (math.AG); Number Theory (math.NT)
We express the reduction types of Picard curves in terms of tropical invariants associated to binary quintics. We also give a general framework for tropical invariants associated to group actions on arbitrary varieties. The problem of finding tropical invariants for binary forms fits in this general framework by mapping the space of binary forms to symmetrized versions of the Deligne-Mumford compactification $\overline{M}_{0,n}$.

Title: Parametrized systems of generalized polynomial equations: first applications to fewnomialsComments: author note: this manuscript and arXiv:2306.13916 are parallel works; there is overlap in the outline of the underlying theory, required for a self-contained presentation. more specifically, in this manuscript, we apply results from arXiv:2306.13916Subjects: Algebraic Geometry (math.AG)
We consider positive solutions to parametrized systems of generalized polynomial equations (with real exponents and positive parameters). By a fundamental result obtained in parallel work, polynomial systems are determined by geometric objects, rather than matrices: a polytope $P$ (arising from the coefficient matrix) and two subspaces representing monomial differences and dependencies (arising from the exponent matrix). The dimension of the latter subspace, the monomial dependency $d$, is crucial. Indeed, we rewrite $\textit{polynomial}$ equations in terms of $d$ $\textit{binomial}$ equations on the coefficient polytope $P$, involving $d$ monomials in the parameters. We further study the solution set on $P$ using methods from analysis such as sign-characteristic functions and Wronskians.
In this work, we present first applications to fewnomial systems through five (classes of) examples. In particular, we study (i) $n$ trinomials involving ${n+2}$ monomials in $n$ variables, having dependency $d=1$, and (ii) one trinomial and one $t$-nomial (with $t\ge3$) in two variables, having $d=t-1\ge2$. For (i), we bound the number of positive solutions using the number of roots of a univariate polynomial of degree at most $n$. We also show that this number is always less than or equal to the number of sign changes in an optimal Descartes' rule given in Bihan et al. (2021). For (ii), we improve upper bounds given in Li et al. (2003) and Koiran et al. (2015). Further, for two trinomials ($t=3$), we refine the known upper bound of five in terms of the exponents, and we find an example with five positive solutions that is even simpler than the smallest "Haas system". - [15] arXiv:2306.13916 (replaced) [pdf, html, other]

Title: Parametrized systems of generalized polynomial inequalitites via linear algebra and convex geometryComments: arXiv admin note: substantial text overlap with arXiv:2304.05273. author note: this manuscript and arXiv:2304.05273 are parallel works; there is no overlap regarding examples. there is overlap in the outline of the underlying theory for a self-contained presentationSubjects: Algebraic Geometry (math.AG); Molecular Networks (q-bio.MN)
We provide fundamental results on positive solutions to parametrized systems of generalized polynomial $\textit{inequalities}$ (with real exponents and positive parameters), including generalized polynomial $\textit{equations}$. In doing so, we also offer a new perspective on fewnomials and (generalized) mass-action systems.
We find that geometric objects, rather than matrices, determine generalized polynomial systems: a bounded set/"polytope" $P$ (arising from the coefficient matrix) and two subspaces representing monomial differences and dependencies (arising from the exponent matrix). The dimension of the latter subspace, the monomial dependency $d$, is crucial.
As our main result, we rewrite $\textit{polynomial inequalities}$ in terms of $d$ $\textit{binomial equations}$ on $P$, involving $d$ monomials in the parameters. In particular, we establish an explicit bijection between the original solution set and the solution set on $P$ via exponentiation.
(i) Our results apply to any generalized polynomial system. (ii) The dependency $d$ and the dimension of $P$ indicate the complexity of a system. (iii) Our results are based on methods from linear algebra and convex/polyhedral geometry, and the solution set on $P$ can be further studied using methods from analysis such as sign-characteristic functions (introduced in this work).
We illustrate our results (in particular, the relevant geometric objects) through three examples from real fewnomial and reaction network theory. For two mass-action systems, we parametrize the set of equilibria and the region for multistationarity, respectively, and even for univariate trinomials, we offer new insights: We provide a "solution formula" involving discriminants and "roots". - [16] arXiv:2308.06390 (replaced) [pdf, other]

Title: On the topology of the moduli of tropical unramified p-coversComments: 39 pages, 11 figures, 5 tablesSubjects: Algebraic Geometry (math.AG); Algebraic Topology (math.AT); Combinatorics (math.CO)
We study the topology of the moduli space of unramified $\mathbb{Z}/p$-covers of tropical curves of genus $g \geq 2$, where $p$ is a prime number. We use recent techniques by Chan--Galatius--Payne to identify contractible subcomplexes of the moduli space. We then use this contractibility result to show that this moduli space is simply connected. In the case of genus 2, we determine the homotopy type of this moduli space for all primes $p$. This work is motivated by prospective applications to the top-weight cohomology of the space of prime cyclic étale covers of smooth algebraic curves.

Title: A motivic filtration on the topological cyclic homology of commutative ring spectraComments: Comments welcome!Subjects: K-Theory and Homology (math.KT); Algebraic Geometry (math.AG); Algebraic Topology (math.AT)
For a prime number $p$ and a $p$-quasisyntomic commutative ring $R$, Bhatt--Morrow--Scholze defined motivic filtrations on the $p$-completions of $\mathrm{THH}(R), \mathrm{TC}^{-}(R), \mathrm{TP}(R),$ and $\mathrm{TC}(R)$, with the associated graded objects for $\mathrm{TP}(R)$ and $\mathrm{TC}(R)$ recovering the prismatic and syntomic cohomology of $R$, respectively. We give an alternate construction of these filtrations that applies also when $R$ is a well-behaved commutative ring spectrum; for example, we can take $R$ to be $\mathbb{S}$, $\mathrm{MU}$, $\mathrm{ku}$, $\mathrm{ko}$, or $\mathrm{tmf}$. We compute the mod $(p,v_1)$ syntomic cohomology of the Adams summand $\ell$ and observe that, when $p \ge 3$, the motivic spectral sequence for $V(1)_*\mathrm{TC}(\ell)$ collapses at the $\mathrm{E}_2$-page.

Title: Categories of Line Defects and Cohomological Hall AlgebrasComments: 81 pages; v2: references added, typos corrected, main conjecture reinforced with results on Schur indices and O^*-equivarianceSubjects: High Energy Physics - Theory (hep-th); Algebraic Geometry (math.AG); Quantum Algebra (math.QA); Representation Theory (math.RT)
Any four-dimensional Supersymmetric Quantum Field Theory with eight supercharges can be associated to a monoidal category of BPS line defects. Any Coulomb vacuum of such a theory can be conjecturally associated to an ``algebra of BPS particles'', exemplified by certain Cohomological Hall Algebras. We conjecture the existence of a monoidal functor from the category of line defects to a certain category of bimodules for the BPS Algebra in any Coulomb vacuum. We describe images of simple objects under the conjectural functor and study their monoidal structure in examples. We conjecture that the functor may be an equivalence of dg-categories and test the conjecture at the level of the equivariant Witten indices of the spaces of morphisms.

Title: Symplectic Grassmannians and Cyclic QuiversSubjects: Representation Theory (math.RT); Algebraic Geometry (math.AG); Combinatorics (math.CO)
The goal of this paper is to extend the quiver Grassmannian description of certain degenerations of Grassmann varieties to the symplectic case. We introduce a symplectic version of quiver Grassmannians studied in our previous papers and prove a number of results on these projective algebraic varieties. First, we construct a cellular decomposition of the symplectic quiver Grassmannians in question and develop combinatorics needed to compute Euler characteristics and Poincaré polynomials. Second, we show that the number of irreducible components of our varieties coincides with the Euler characteristic of the classical symplectic Grassmannians. Third, we describe the automorphism groups of the underlying symplectic quiver representations and show that the cells are the orbits of this group. Lastly, we provide an embedding into the affine flag varieties for the affine symplectic group.
